Transformers Discussion

Rukiafan's latest avatar, which I have dubbed Optimeow Purrime, Leader of the Autopets, has prompted me to start a Transformers discussion thread. So here it is!

I found a whole bunch of Beast Wars-series toys in my room, which I've set up on my television unit as an action diorama. On one side, the heroic Maximals: Optimus Primal, Cheetor, Dinobot and Tigatron! On the other side, the evil Predacons: Megatron, Tarantulas, Wolfang and Blackarachnia! Who will win?

I've also made a starting list of vintage Beast Warriors which I'd like to try and find for my collection:

Beat Wars was the best story line in any Transfer series to date. Love the show but not so much the toys. As for the rest I'm a huge fan of Transformers since I was a kid. I collected everything I could starting from gen 1 on to the Armoda series. My kids these days play with my Transformers though as I rather they be played with then just merely collected.

Have you heard of the new Combiner Wars line, @Tech101? Many of the G1 combiners are back and better than ever, and unlike combiners of recent decades (*cough* RotF Devastator), they're apparently really good. I guess it goes to show you can't beat a classic.

I'm not up to date on the current toys or show tbh. Not enough time in the day.

Ah, fair enough. There is one weird thing about the line: the only team that's currently available is the Aerialbots, but you can only get four of them. They also released the Stunticon Drag Strip at the same time. This means that you can build Superion, but he's gonna be 20% Stunticon until the fifth Aerialbot comes out in May.

A friend of mine bought me three of the new Combiner Wars toys! He got me Silverbolt, the leader of the Aerialbots, as well as the Aerialbot Firefly and the Stunticon Dragstrip. I was so surprised when he told me!

I like so many of the characters that it was a very hard choice! I went with Dinobot simply because he's center of some of the best episodes in the series. Not to mention my favorite episode SPOILER..... where he sacrificed himself for the human race........END SPOILER. I'd say runner up for me would be Waspinator followed by Rhinox. This is why this is my favorite series in the Transfermers universe, they did such a great job of developing the characters!

I have to agree with you on that one. Beast Wars is easily one of my favourite series from when I was growing up in terms of story and character development. FUN FACT: Wolfang was originally going to be in the series,

I wasn't able to watch all the series till it was released on DVD years ago. I seen the first 2 seasons on tv but then they stopped. Glad for dvds that's for sure.

My brother gave me the complete collection on DVD for Christmas a while back. I've started rewatching them, but our DVD player's stopped working properly. :/

All this Beast Wars talk is making me want to watch them again as well. Hope you get yours fixed. I recently got a bluray player for 60$ They've really come down in price.

I was planning on getting a PS3 sometime this year, which would serve as my Blu-Ray player. Of course, I still need to replace my TV, which broke in the middle of last year...

I'm thinking I might revise the list of Beast Wars toys I'd like to collect by using the options in the polls. Why just collect a few of my favourites when I could collect all my favourites instead? ^_^

Here's one of my favourite moments from Beast Wars: Transformers:

The Maximals stare at their ancestor, Optimus Prime, who's been near-irreparably damaged.
Optimus Primal: Well, that's just prime.
Rattrap: Or what's left of him.
The others glare at Rattrap.
Rattrap: I know, I know, "Shut up, Rattrap!"...

So Combiner Wars is really growing on me at a rapid rate, and I'm looking forward to collecting my favourites from the series. The currently-known characters/teams which I'd most like to collect are the Constructicons, Optimus Maximus, Cyclonus, the Aerialbots, the Stunticons, the Protectobots and the Combaticons. "But Zack," I hear you ask, "Optimus Maximus and the Combaticons haven't officially been announced yet!" Ah, but there have been leaks which spoil the identities of Optimus Maximus, Onslaught and Scattershot (I'm not listing the Technobots until I know that the Terrorcons will also definitely be coming as well, though).

Even though only three of the original Scramble City combiner teams have been officially announced, there are strong rumours that there will also be new versions of the Combaticons, and some of the clues are in the current toys: Alpha Bravo (and, by extension, Blades) looks like he would make a perfect Vortex; Rook could easily be retooled into a new Brawl figure; Hot Spot is a blatant giveaway that he'd be retooled into his nemesis, Onslaught; and Swindle happens to be the central focus of the storyline's prologue, perhaps hinting at a major involvement of him in the near future, not to mention the fact that it'd be easy enough to repurpose the Off Road mould into a new Swindle toy.

So let's assume that there is going to be a team of Combaticons in Combiner Wars (Yay!). Here's what I would want to see in it:

Onslaught as a retool of the Protectobot leader, Hot Spot
Swindle as a retool of the new Stunticon member, Off Road
Brawl as a retool of the new Protectobot member, Rook
Vortex as a retool of the new Aerialbot member, Alpha Bravo
A brand-new Combaticon* as a retool of one of the jet Aerialbots

That last one is particularly enticing, as having a jet in the Combaticon ranks would really capture the essence of the team's theme. Blast Off is okay, but space shuttles don't really seem like battle-ready vehicles to me. A jet would be a perfect new addition for sure.

Just hearing you talk about them gets me so excited! I'm probably long past collecting them but just hearing some of those names you rattled of brings back so many memories. I still have a bunch of first gen and beyond my kids play with these days.

The Transformers is my favorite toy and cartoon series of all time. To me they were always more then just a toy and they were multiple toys to me. That's why most other toys never really clicked with me as they were just one thing, never changing and always the same.

I have to agree with you there, @Tech_101. Transformers were amongst the first toys I ever owned, and I never really grew out of them. I remember my first combiner toy was G2 Swindle, but I didn't get my first full combiner teams until about 5 years ago, when Power Core Combiners were released.
