This is likely to be a major spider crawl to the web site, not actual guests. My site got about the same amount a couple weeks. It happens a few times a year when Google decided to heavily crawl web sites and update web site content.

I hate spiders. They are creepy

Not likely the spiders are shown in the administration stats and yesterday at the peak we had 141 guests and 15 spiders/bots.

We peaked at an incredible 203 users online just a short while ago!

@Nintenbro that did happen on June 26th 2012 and we had over 600 posts and 500,000 visitors on that day.
