Why the Game Boy Color VC Drought?
October 5th 2011, 10:07 pm
We've had plenty of monochrome Game Boy titles already (with the most recent at the time of posting this thread the sublime Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins), but so far we've only had a single Game Boy Color game (the equally sublime The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX). Hopefully we get more GBC games soon, considering that Nintendo was plugging GBC VC from the get-go. Would we at least get the Oracle games at Christmastime to bring out the 25th Anniversary of The Legend of Zelda with a big fanfare? I certainly hope so, but there are plenty of other GBC games still at large too. What would you like to see made available? When do you think Nintendo will let this drought come to an end, and make the desert that we call eShop flower again?
Oh, and yes, I did put a reference to a song in there.

I know it's really disheartening, and it's not just the gameboy color games that are an issue, we also only have one 3DSWare game that isn't a 3D Classic so far and let's not forget the situation with the wii vc

There's a rumor circulating that the Gameboy Color game Wario World is going to be released tomorrow in North America and Europe
I wouldn't count on it given all the false rumors flying around the web, but at least it gives us some hope

I remember Wario Land as being one of my most fondly-remembered Game Boy games. It has been confirmed for an Australian release sometime in the future, which logically means that Europe would get it the same day. But it is not a colour game, hence my concern with the lack of GBC games in the eShop.
But if Wario Land is released within the next couple of months, then there's a good chance of Wario Land II following suit. I just hope that Nintendo doesn't pull a Wii VC and release the non-colour versions of Wario Land II, Game & Watch Gallery 2 and other games released both in monochrome and colour! That would mean even less GBC games in the eShop!

I just heard that Pokémon Gold and Silver were announced for 3DS virtual console and will have an online trading feature on a thread at http://Ign.com

Wouldn't mind a source to go with that, if you can still find it.Roboluigi wrote:I just heard that Pokémon Gold and Silver were announced for 3DS virtual console and will have an online trading feature on a thread at http://Ign.com
That said, I think releases are slow simply because less Game Boy Color games were made. It`s a similar situation to why there aren't many N64 games on the Wii Virtual Console, albeit not as extreme. If developers aren't interested in publishing their old games yet, then the likelihood of Nintendo spacing out their own Game Boy Color games is much higher.
Pure speculation here, but hey.
