Review: The Legend of The Dark Witch (3DS eShop)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Bewitching Adventure!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 300x10
Developed by Inside System and published by CIRCLE Entertainment, The Legend of The Dark Witch is a Megaman-style action-platformer that faithfully recreates the intense action and enjoyable gameplay formula of the early Megaman titles and adds a few of its own twists to give the game a unique feel! Does this mean that the game surpasses the early Megaman entries in-terms of quality? Not necessarily, however the game is still fantastic in its own right and here's why:
The gameplay is straightforward for any Megaman fan as you basically play through six stages of action platforming, shooting your way past many weaker enemies and at the end of each stage you'll face-off against a powerful "master" of the stage and if you beat her, you'll receive her power! Certain powers are effective against certain masters just like in the Megaman series!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 300x13
There are some definite tweaks to the classic Megaman formula as enemies will drop butterfly looking orbs that you can collect and use to enhance your abilities and weapons! The game also features a neat minigame that can be quite enjoyable so we won't spoil it for you!
The controls are quite intuitive and very easy to learn and the 3D effects are either very weak or nonexistent, we honestly couldn't tell which was the case.
Visually the game is gorgeous, as are the adorable anime-style girls that you can play as, and face-off against a.k.a. the masters! The backgrounds in the stages and level design are also magnificent! The soundtrack is also absolutely incredible in The Legend of The Dark Witch and is possibly its strongest asset which is saying alot given the overall quality of the game!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 300x14
Bottom-Line:
If you are a fan of cute anime girl protagonists and antagonists, as well as fantastic Megaman-style action-platforming, The Legend of The Dark Witch is quite possibly the best 3DS eShop title that fills those two checkboxes! The flawless controls, and picture-perfect audio-visual presentation make this game the perfect choice for fans of the genre and because of this we give the game a near perfect score!
Review: Alphadia (3DS eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Solid Energi!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 299110
Developed by ExeCreates and published by Kemco, Alphadia is the first title in the fairly popular Alphadia series which up until now has mostly been released on mobile devices with the exception of Alphadia Genesis which released on the Wii U eShop a couple of years ago! We gave Alphadia Genesis for the Wii U an excellent score in our review of the game which can be viewed by clicking on this link, but does Alphadia live up to the fairly high bar that Alphadia Genesis set? We don't feel it does, but it's still a solid game in our opinion and here's why:
In-terms of the story, everything's fairly simplistic in a retro-RPG sort of way and for the most part nothing will really surprise you as the plot-twists are relatively weak in this game, but that being said there's still alot of substance to the plot so it isn't all bad. Perhaps the fact that we played Alphadia Genesis first might have made us aware of plot-twists beforehand so it may not be the game's fault.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Alphad11
The gameplay is fairly solid and feels like a classic SNES RPG such as Final Fantasy IV, V, or VI with excellent turn-based battles, a fairly large world map, and some devilishly lengthy and challenging dungeons. The battles start off way too easy for the first 10-15 hours of the game, but once you gain access to the ship things become incredibly difficult.
The game is also fairly lengthy and will likely provide newcomers with 30-40 hours of gameplay and can take upwards of 50 hours if you're a completionist!
Visually the game looks nice! The 16-bit graphics in battles, towns, dungeons, and the world map are excellent, while the hand-drawn anime-style cutscenes look superb. The special effects can look good at times, while at others they look fairly cheap. The sound effects in the game are decidedly retro and fit the game well while the soundtrack is fantastic and will really immerse you into the game!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Alphad10
Bottom-Line:
With a good story that's fairly predictable if you've already played Alphadia Genesis for the Wii U, excellent gameplay with an unbalanced difficulty level, and a mostly superb audio-visual presentation, Alphadia is far from perfect, but is still a very solid title if you're a fan of JRPG's. And as such we give the game a solid level of recommendation!
Price: £8.99/€9.99/$9.99
Review: Oddworld New 'n' Tasty (Wii U eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Better Than A Bag O' Flesh-Pops!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Oddwor10
Developed by Just Add Water and published by Oddworld Inc, Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty is an HD remake of the original Oddworld title for the Sony PSX! The original version of the game was incredibly eerie and dark and was overall a fantastic game, so how does New 'n' Tasty stack up to the original? Continue reading our review to find out!
The story is very dark and sinister in Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty just as was in Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey on the PSX. Some elements of the story have been altered a bit both in a good way and bad way depending on the scene, but overall the story is still great for a platformer. The gameplay is still excellent with limited powers and emphasis on stealth, Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty is a challenging yet fun platformer that will certainly hook any fan of 2D platformers.
Besides the traditional platforming elements, the game possesses some clever puzzles including crates, levers, and intricate enemy patterns in some sections that require careful planning to get by as well as "endless runner" style areas where you ride a beast across hazardous areas filled with spikes and pitfalls among other dangers and it feels quite rewarding to get past these areas!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Large10
The controls are somewhat shoddy in our opinion, it's not broken, but the button mapping is pretty bad and there's no way to change it in the options which really brings the game down. There's also an issue where audio doesn't play from the Gamepad during cut-scenes which kills the mood during Off-TV sessions.
Visually the game is bright a colorful which is a stark contrast to the dark and eerie art-style the original Abe's Odyssey had on the PSX. Sure the environments look nicer for the most part, but this change completely ruins the game's atmosphere. Not only that, but the game's special effects and multiple layered hand-drawn claymation-style backgrounds were completely nerfed and replaced with more simplistic and in most cases inferior looking effects and backgrounds. These visual issues were problematic enough to force us to drop the overall score by one point.
In-terms of audio, however Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty shines. The sound effects are excellent and the music is superb and fits the game well! The voice acting during the cut-scenes is cheezy at times, but in a 90's Saturday morning cartoon sort of way, which is a good thing in our opinion!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Maxres10
Bottom-Line:
With fantastic gameplay that is both highly enjoyable and challenging, a great story with excellent cinematics, and a great audio presentation, Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty is a great game in its own right, however it fails to reach its true potential thanks to shoddy, poorly mapped controls, and a seriously downgraded visual presentation when compared to the original Abe's Odyssey on the PSX. There's also the issue with no sound coming from the gamepad during cut-scenes which will hopefully be addressed in a future patch, but overall the game is still solid to good and as such we award the game with an appropriate score!
Price: $14.99
Developer's Interview: Our Discussion With MP2 And Konjak Regarding NoituLove For The Wii U And 3DS!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Double Interview Ahoy!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Dev%20Interview%20mp2_zpsuqkm2yqc
We recently had the opportunity to interview MP2 Games and "Konjak" regarding their upcoming Wii U and 3DS eShop title NoituLove! We like getting to the point without unnecessary fluff so here's what they had to say regarding NoituLove:
Developer's Interview wrote:
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Header10
Hello! Thanks for joining us to answer our questions regarding Noitu Love!
[MP2]: Thanks for having us! I'm Mathias from MP2 Games.
[Konjak]: Hello! I'm Joakim Sandberg, probably more known as "konjak".
Could you tell us about your team?
[MP2]: So it's really just me and Joakim. I do the porting/publishing, while Joakim does the rest, really.
[Konjak]: I sit in my chair and try to make games and eating things with all of my time.
How long has Noitu Love been in development?
[MP2]: The 3DS and Wii U versions have been in development since the end of 2015. The original game was released quite some time ago!
[Konjak]: Thanks to Mathias I think the game will reach a lot more people, but I actually released the game on PC in 2008. It later got on Steam in 2012, so this has been a journey. The game itself, prior to that, took me a record 9-10 months because it was a very fun and simple project for me.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Nouito10
Is the 3DS version of the game compatible with all 3DS' or is it a New
3DS exclusive?
[MP2]: It will be compatible with both the original 3DS and the New 3DS!
Could you tell us a bit about the game?
[Konjak]: Noitu Love Devolution is a quite classic action-arcade game, dominated by explosions and bosses. It stars Xoda Rap as she has to protect the city from the resurgence of the "Darn" army, a group of evil robots. But along with them comes problems where parts of the city is turning into other place and time eras, and the Peacekeepers have to find out why it happens, and how to fix it.
What are some of the most unique features of Noitu Love?
[Konjak]: The game is simply my desire to make my own Contra or Metal Slug-like game, as those were things of my childhood. To make it something more interesting, I wanted to see what I could do when such a game used mouse controls, and I found it could be pretty fun, and also very fluent in how you get around. So with motions and aiming you zip around all over the screen, beating on things.
Will the Wii U version of the game be different than the 3DS version?
[MP2]: The 3DS version will have gameplay and controls that are similar to those on the Wii U using the Gamepad. We are still finalizing the 3DS version, so the 3DS version may have a few extra additions when we release it.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Noitu_10
How long would you say NoituLove is from beginning to end for
first-time players?
[Konjak]: It's akin to the length of those classic action games. It's compact and sweet, wanting you to replay it. It does come with unlockable characters who play completely different. I thought it would be fun to see what other controls based on pointing around I could think of, and they are the result.
Which controllers will be compatible with the Wii U version of your game?
[MP2]: The Gamepad is supported, using swipes and touch gestures for special moves. Also, Wiimote + Nunchuk is supported, where you press buttons to hit enemies while pointing at the screen. This also uses Wiimote swipes to do special moves!
What is your favorite aspect of Noitu Love?
[MP2]: The classic arcade gameplay, and the countless boss fights. It's action extravaganza, and learning how to deal with new enemies is a great experience.
[Konjak]: Explosions.
That's all of the questions we have for you today! Hopefully we'll
have the opportunity to interview you again sometime!
[MP2]: Thank you for the attention! The game will be out around April on Wii U and 3DS, so make sure to follow @konjak_news if you want to stay updated.
[Konjak]: Also check out the projects of Mathias and MP2 Games (http://mp2.dk/) as he's been a good source of getting hard-to-port games to more people. A true citizen.
Take care!
[MP2]: Bye!
[Konjak]: Bye.
A full-3D successor to the WiiWare title Anima: Ark of Sinners, Anima: Gate of Memories was crowdfunded a long while ago and was promised to be released on the Wii U, but that promise looks like it might end up being broken as the developer has stated this on their Kickstarter updates:
Kickstarter Update wrote:Anima Gate of Memories will be released simultaneously in Windows, Xbox One and PS4 and we are working to be able to release a few months later a WiiU version (which, even if we are still not sure, we hope that will be possible).
News: Action-RPG Sadame Should Be Hitting The North American And European 3DS eShops This Month!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Action-packed Insanity Coming Soon!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Origin10
The well known mid-sized developer Rising Star Games has confirmed that they will be localizing the 3DS action-RPG Sadame for the North American and European regions! Here's the official overview of the game:
Official Overview wrote:Translating simply as 'fate', four warriors are called to battle with a whirl of swords, spells and mysterious arcane abilities in this fast-paced hack-'n-slash adventure. Cut a swathe through waves of demons as you battle against the vivid backdrop of a reimagined Warring States period of Japan.
Players guide their chosen hero through dozens of stages, facing an onslaught of over twenty enormous bosses, collecting loot, enhancing their equipment and levelling up with new abilities with which to punish and slay Nobunaga's hordes.
Choose from the sword-wielding Samurai; the ranged and stealthy Ninja; the spell-slinging Monk or the enchanting witchery of the Rogue. Each of the four playable heroes has a distinct story and gameplay style with their own abilities and skills to explore and enhance.
However, as loot is shared between multiple save files and previously created heroes can be set to assist new ones in battle – not to mention the branching paths offered by the story – Sadame offers a huge amount of replay value.
Sadame is said to feature four characters that each have a completely unique fighting style as well as interesting use of the Streetpass feature! The game will be hitting the 3DS eShop in North America and Europe on February 25th!
Be sure to checkout the official trailer of the game and as always feel free to leave us your thoughts in our comments section below!
Review: Level 22 (Wii U eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

An Enjoyable Bugfest...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 885x10
Developed and published by Moving Player, Level 22 is a unique and enjoyable stealth-platformer that has many strong points, however it's riddled with a ton of major bugs. Do these bugs completely ruin the experience? Not quite, and here's why:
The gameplay in Level 22 is straightforward you must hide from all guards and employees by either distracting them or hiding from them to reach your office on floor 22 undetected to keep your job! The difficulty can be quite challenging at times, but it can be a rewarding experience to say the least.
The controls are passable, however they certainly could be better and it'll take players awhile to get used to them. The gamepad features are fairly sparse for a game that requires the controller, with touch controls being used for some actions in the game for some unknown reason which feels out of place in the game, however the Off-TV-Play feature is fully functioning and is a nice feature to have!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Large14
The enemy patterns are usually easy to read, however there's some issues that occur from time-to-time where the enemies don't follow their predetermined paths and that's not the only major bug that we found in Level 22, for instance one time when we hid in a box, a mailman picked up the package a drug us off forcing us to reset the game in order to progress. These issues really hampered this otherwise solid title in our opinions.
Visually Level 22 has a nice artstyle, nothing too impressive mind you, but it still looks nice with detailed stages filled with often humorous characters and objects. The sound effects are somewhat simplistic and the music is pretty generic in our opinions, but overall the audio-visual presentation is decent enough.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 885x11
Bottom-Line:
With good gameplay, and decent audio-visual presentation Level 22 had the potential to be a solid game, however many bugs and other issues seriously hold the game back, but despite these issues there's still fun to be had with the game. We give Level 22 a decent level of recommendation!
Review: RV-7 My Drone (3DS eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My Drone, Not Feeling It...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 300x10
Developed and published by Enjoy Up Games, RV-7 My Drone is an action game that has you control a drone and try to complete certain tasks without being sent to the scrapyard, but is this game any fun? We have serious mixed feelings about the game and here's why:
The gameplay in RV-7 My Drone is really shallow, you basically go on missions with your drone, save civilians, secure cargo, etc. in what amounts to undless fetch quests. These mundane quests quickly grow old and there's not a whole lot of features that keep your mind off of this fact.
The stages are randomly generated which makes each playthrough unique which is nice. The controls are also very intuitive and easy to learn so that's a very good thing!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 300x11
Their are several different enemy types, but there isn't much variety in their behavior and the difficulty of the game is very unpredictable at times which is quite annoying.
Visually the game looks really bad. The art-direction is very incoherent as there is no theme or consistency to the stages or enemies. The worst part is that there's alot of visual glitches in this game that we ran across which ruined the visual presentation even further for us. Issues included cropping and pop-in, but there were several other issues with the game's visuals as well.
In-terms of audio, the sound effects are decent enough, and the music is okay, but nothing that really stands out, overall the audio-visual presentation is definitely below average.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 300x12
Bottom-Line:
With shallow gameplay and a poor audio-visual presentation, as well as a poorly balanced difficulty level RV-7 My Drone fails in many aspects, sure it can be somewhat fun in short bursts and some tweaks to the gameplay would have made the game average in-terms of quality, but as it is the game is quite poor at providing gamers a reasonable experience so we can't really recommend this game to our fan-base. RV-7 My Drone gets a below average recommendation from us...
It looks like the import title Kuru Kuru Kururin for the Gameboy Advance will be hitting the Wii U Virtual Console service tomorrow according to a listing on Nintendo of America's official website! This is the first time that Kuru Kuru Kururin has been made available officially in the North American region so the gameplay is a secret to everyone in the region "at least for those of you who haven't imported the game". Sorry we couldn't resist a bit of Zelda humor!
Here's some information regarding the game:
Overview wrote:“Kururin’s brothers and sisters are lost across 10 different worlds! In his special helicopter, the Helirin, navigate through mazes as quickly as you can while avoiding obstacles such as walls, pistons, and cannons.
You can also customize your Helirin by using items acquired in Adventure mode.”
Are you looking forward to this upcoming Wii U Virtual Console import title? Will you be downloading the game when it hits the eShop tomorrow? As always be sure to let us know in our comments section below!
Review: Shutshimi: Seriously Swole (Wii U eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Seriously Swell Shmup!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Wiiu_s40
Developed by Neon Deity Games and published by Choice Provisions Shutshimi: Seriously Swole is a very unique shoot 'em up title that has players take on 10 second waves of ememies as well as bosses and did we mention that it's blisteringly difficult too? Does the game as a whole warrant downloading it? We think so and here's why:
The gameplay is fast paced as you must take on hordes of enemies or a challenging boss in 10 seconds while trying to survive and rack-up points to spend in the shop to power-up your gun-wielding musclebound fish or change the elements of the next stage!
Every playthrough is completely unique which is a great feature of the game so expect plenty of surprises even after your 20th or even 50th playthrough! The difficulty is very unforgiving especially in the unlockable difficulty settings. Luckily, however you don't have to play alone as up to three of your friends can join you for some hilariously insane co-op!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Shutsh10
The controls are fantastic and there are tons of different compatible controllers which is great for a game that utilizes co-op gameplay! The game also features Off-TV-Play which is a great feature when playing alone!
The game features two graphics options and BGM options one each that's retro or more modern both options are fantastic in both categories. The visuals are very fluid regardless of on-screen action, and the soundtrack is retro sounding and fits the game really well plus it sounds awesome to boot! Overall Shutshimi has an excellent audio-visual presentation!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Shutsh11
Bottom-Line:
With superb gameplay with top-notch co-op, excellent controls with a ton of controller options, total randomness of the stages that seem completely balanced, and an excellent audio-visual presentation, Shutshimi: Seriously Swole is very close to perfection, however it's not quite there nonetheless the game is still one of the best indie titles released on the Wii U so far this year and has earned a near-perfect level of recommendation from us!
Price: $9.99
Developer's Interview: Our Discussion With Wee Man Studios Regarding Their Upcoming 3DS eShop Title Lifespeed!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Three Cheers For The New 3DS!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Lifesp10
Developer's Interviews have become something far more common in recent times here at WiiWareWave thanks to their recent surge in sheer popularity so it should come as no surprise that we have another interview to share with you, our fantastic fans!
We recently interviewed Wee Man Studios regarding their upcoming 3DS eShop futuristic racer Lifespeed and we learned quite a bit about the game! Without further ado here's our interview with Wee Man Studios in its entirety:
Interview wrote:
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Lifesp11
Could you tell us a bit about your team?
[WMS]: "John Owens developed the game from start to finish and is the driving force behind the whole project. He is modest about it but really its pretty amazing for a game of this complexity and polish! Seven day work weeks have been the norm for so long that its going to be really strange when he moves to a normal work schedule.
We also had various contractors work with us throughout the project to do the bits he couldn't do and generate the artwork, music, and language translations."
How long has Lifespeed been in development?
[WMS]: "A number of years, we don't like to count! To be honest the project was probably too much for one man to take on, we made it in the end but it would have been sensible to take on something smaller.
Rookie indie developer mistake which we managed to actually see through till the end. We were lucky that I have a full time job so we have just got by on one salary for the past few years."
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Lifesp12
What kind of game is Lifespeed?
[WMS]: Lifespeed is a futuristic flying racer. You will fly ships at mach 2 down tiny tunnels and through rings to get weapons to battle against the 9 other racers. Its a fast twitchy game with a challenging old school feel to it.
What games inspired you to develop Lifespeed?
[WMS]: "The original inspiration actually came from the scene in star wars return of the Jedi where the ships are flying down the tunnels of the death star. We wanted to capture that same fast frantic rush in a race.
Pilot Wings on the SNES where you fly through a course of rings was a big early inspiration. Mario Kart inspired the fun racing fighting type gameplay."
We heard that Lifespeed is a New 3DS exclusive title! Is this true?
[WMS]: We will be bringing Lifespeed out on the New 3DS.
What made you decide to make Lifespeed a New 3DS exclusive title?
[WMS]: Simply down to performance, the New 3DS actually a much more powerful device so it allowed us to get all the features into Lifespeed that we were hoping for.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Lifesp13
Can you tell us about the unique features of the game?
[WMS]: We think the combination of all the gameplay elements is unique; flying in 3D space, tunnels, racing, fighting the other ships, flying through rings for pickups. Haven't seen any other game with all those elements combined yet! Oh and of course you can do a barrel roll.
When can we expect Lifespeed to hit the 3DS eShop?
[WMS]: As soon as is humanly possible. Well hopefully March, difficult for us to predict as its our first time releasing an indie title.
Review: Shadow Puppeteer (Wii U eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Shallow Shadowy Platforming...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Wiiu_s39
Developed by Sarepta Studio and published by Snow Cannon Games Shadow Puppeteer is a 3D platformer that has some very unique gameplay and an excellent co-op mode, however it is marred by seriously repetitive gameplay, but is the repetition enough to make us not recommend the game? We don't think so and here's why:
The gameplay in Shadow Puppeteer is relatively unique, you must team up with the protagonists shadow in order to solve puzzles and progress through the platforming stages. The protagonist must traverse through a 3D plane whereas his shadow must navigate a 2D plane as he can only travel across the walls in most situations.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 630x43
The co-op is where this game truly shines and it's quite enjoyable. One player controls the protagonist, while the other controls his shadow overall the game is much more enjoyable when playing with a friend! The game does have issues though such as repetitious stages and puzzles which really hurt the game overall.
The controls in the game are fairly solid, however it's quite challenging to control both characters at once in single-player mode. Visually the game is really good looking, especially the animated cutscenes which look amazing! The character models are fairly unique as well, but the stages themselves are a bit bland looking which is a bit disappointing. In-terms of audio the game's sound effects are fairly good and the music also fits the game very well! Overall the audio-visual presentation in Shadow Puppeteer is great!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 630x44
Bottom-Line:
With solid gameplay that is quite unique, fantastic co-op, and a great audio-visual presentation, Shadow Puppeteer has its moments and can be a very fun game, however sometimes confusing controls and repetitious gameplay really hold the game back, but overall we give Shadow Puppeteer a solid recommendation!
Review: FreezeMe (Wii U eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

An Ice Solid Platforming Adventure Awaits U!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Freeze16
Developed and published by the one person crew at Rainy Night Creations FreezeMe is love letter to the platformers of the 90's with some modern and unique touches that will remind players of the golden age of the video game industry, however some bugs are present, but are they bad enough to warrant staying away from this title? We don't think so and here's why:
The gameplay in FreezeMe is relatively straightforward you must collect Golden Cubes to beat levels and you can collect Green Pig Coins for doing side quests in the various levels. Some side quests are only available in certain levels and there are also several hidden Salamanders to find which unlock neat features post-game! There are also six challenge stages on top of the four main worlds in the game as well as 40 individual levels within the four main worlds. The game can take upwards of 30 hours to complete and admittedly even then you might not find all of the Salamanders in that time-frame as some are incredibly well-hidden!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Freeze17
The freezing mechanic is the most unique element in the game and is used to hold bosses in place, use enemies as platforms to reach higher areas, and to freeze certain moving objects such as lifts, rotating platforms, etc. The camera can be somewhat clunky, but it's no worse than that of the typical 90's era 3D platformer.
The game also features anti-gravity sections and planetoids in each of the four main worlds that add a serious Super Mario Galaxy feel to the gameplay formula. The controls are somewhat floaty and could be better, but they're still leagues better than most 90's era 3D platformers so it's not a huge issue. The co-op mode feels very reminiscent of the co-star feature in Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 and is a great feature that is extremely fun!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Freeze18
The visuals in the game are fantastic and look like they belong in a AAA Gamecube title! The character models are excellent, the worlds are massive and detailed, and the level designs are absolutely breathtaking! In-terms of audio the sound effects are typical fare for a 3D platformer, however FreezeMe's soundtrack is truly exceptional and fits the game like a glove!
Now for the bad, FreezeMe has several annoying bugs that seem to occur when using certain external hard-drives. One causes all of the buttons except the movement stick on the controller to stop working for the first 10-20 seconds of a level from time to time, and the other causes the controllers to be swapped during co-op which can be seriously annoying, thankfully these only occur when using certain hard-drives so if this happens move the game to your Wii U's internal memory to solve the issue!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Freeze19
Bottom-Line:
With fantastic gameplay and loads of content as well as a breathtaking audio-visual presentation FreezeMe is an excellent platformer that will remind players of 3D platformers of yesteryear, however this also comes with the typical clunkiness of the controls and cameras from games back then, but overall the game is absolutely incredible! The bugs, however seriously hamper the game, but are thankfully not gamebreaking by any means so we give FreezeMe for the Wii U eShop a great level of recommendation!
Price: IP $9.99 then $13.99
Review: Golden Sun: The Lost Age (Wii U VC)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sailing The Seas of Adventure!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Medium15
Developed by Camelot Games and published by Nintendo Golden Sun: The Lost Age is essentially cartridge 2 of the original Golden Sun title as both titles were originally supposed to be one game, but Camelot Games was unable to make the massive title fit in one GBA cartridge so they split the game in two.
You can use the password system in the first title to transfer your save file to Golden Sun: The Lost Age which is a fantastic feature that even works in the Wii U Virtual Console version of the game!
As for the story, Golden Sun: The Lost Age picks up where Golden Sun left off. The story actually feels much more epic this time around and many secrets are revealed about alchemy and the state of the world! Another unique story-related feature is that depending on your actions in the first game, some special story events may occur in Golden Sun: The Lost Age which is extremely cool as it connects the two games together as one single intertwined story!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Medium16
The gameplay is similar to the first Golden Sun title for the most part, but there are several additions to the formula! First of all after a certain point in the game you'll obtain a ship that'll allow you to travel the seas and explore the world. This ship will later be upgraded so it can fly, allowing you to reach even more places in the vast world of the game.
The game features a ton of optional dungeons and some of these are quite challenging. Though the dungeons in general are far more difficult than the one's in the original Golden Sun title as the puzzles are at times extremely complex!
The battle system is more or less the same as it was in Golden Sun, but there are a few changes. First you can now obtain new summons via. Summon Tablets from certain dungeons that allow you to utilize multi-elemental summons that are more powerful than their single-elemental counterparts! Some of these summons can be exceptionally difficult to obtain.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Medium17
The other new feature in combat is the switch system! At a certain point in the story your party will grow to a total of 8 members. You can switch members during combat or if all of your 4 member party dies the other 4 party members will jump in automatically which is a great feature when facing off against some of the stronger bosses in the game!
Golden Sun: The Lost Age also has a New Game+ feature that allows you to replay the game at an adjusted level of difficulty! You can choose whether the game is easier or more difficult and this will affect the stats of the enemies you'll face in battle during that playthrough of the game! The overall length of the game is incredible as well as it'll take most players 100+ hours to complete the game on top of the 80+ hours to complete the first Golden Sun title!
The controls are really tight and are very easy to learn. The graphics are also fantastic for a GBA title and The Lost Age appears to even be a little better than the first Golden Sun title visually! The graphics are a bit more crisp and clear. On the audio side of things, Golden Sun: The Lost Age is absolutely amazing, the sound effects are varied and sound great, and the soundtrack is one of the very best that we've ever heard from a GBA title!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Medium18
Bottom-Line:
With top-notch gameplay with over 100 hours worth of gameplay, a fantastic story, excellent controls, and an unparalleled audio-visual presentation for a Gameboy Advance title, Golden Sun: The Lost Age is one game currently available on the Wii U Virtual Console service that every Wii U owner should have in their library of games! We give Golden Sun: The Lost Age a perfect level of recommendation!
Review: Space Hulk (Wii U eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Solid Hulk!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Wiiu_s38
Developed by Hoplite Research/Full Control/Plunge Interactive and published by Hoplite Research Games, Space Hulk is a unique strategy title that will keep you on the edge of your seat, but is it worth its steep price? That's a judgement call and here's why:
First of all the gameplay is standard strategy genre fare nothing too special, you move your characters on a grid map, give them commands, etc. However it's all fairly solid. The problem is, that there isn't all that much content to be had in the game, which is a serious issue with such an expensive eShop title. The controls are solid and very intuitive thankfully.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 630x41
The main draw of this game is the use of the Gamepad which is used as a first-person camera or a map depending on the situation which will allow you to see things that you can't with the third-person view on the TV screen! This is one of the most brilliant uses of the Gamepad that we've seen from any developer and is the reason why we don't give this game a merely average score!
Space Hulk has amazing visuals for an eShop title, the video cutscenes are definitely very impressive. The character models and locations are incredibly detailed as well, though there isn't much variety which does hurt the impressiveness of the visuals a bit. The audio is at times very ambient and fits the mood of the game very well!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Large13
Bottom-Line:
With solid controls, excellent use of the Gamepad and a superb audio-visual presentation, Space Hulk for the Wii U eShop can be an excellent game at times, however average gameplay, lack of content, and its rather expensive price tag seriously hurt this game's score, nonetheless we still feel that Space Hulk deserves a solid recommendation!
Price: $29.99
Developer's Interview: Our Hilarious Discussion With Neon Deity Games Regarding Shutshimi For The Wii U!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Lighthearted Interview!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Ss_fac11
We recently had the opportunity to interview the rather hilarious team behind the upcoming Wii U eShop shmup Shutshimi: Seriously Swole. Without further ado here's our interview with Neon Deity Games in its entirety:
The interview wrote:
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Ss_5c611
Hello! Thanks for joining us to answer some of our questions!
[NDG]: We were told there would be pie.
Can you tell us a little about your team who worked on Shutshimi?
[NDG]: We’re a (hungry) team of three: Garrett codes, Wayne makes art and Anthony makes audio. And we generally don’t like being restrained against our will, but we’ll make an exception this one time ♥
What were your inspirations for Shutshimi?
[NDG]: Google Image search, Youtube Poops, horrible developer art, crushing time constraints and ice cream. And pie. Seriously, where is it?
Can you tell us about the unique features in Shutshimi?
[NDG]: "Shutshimi is the only Buffalo-made shooter-based party game available on the market, featuring rapid-fire gameplay, constantly-changing scenarios, and a multitude of headwear options.
It even features familiar faces from some other games! There’s also a Can o’ Beans powerup that gives you a butt-based boost. Little known fact: Fish love beans. Really, there’s only one thing Shutshimi doesn’t have. Pie… much like this interview."
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Ss_ed111
How many stages does Shutshimi possess?
[NDG]: Two. Wait, six...Actually, it might be closer to 1000. No, more like… as many stars as there are in the sky. Or bricks in this cell. Really, it’s endless…like this lack of pie!
Which controllers are compatible with the Wii U version of Shutshimi?
[NDG]: "Better question is which controllers aren’t compatible with Shutshimi...the Gamecube Controller and the Balance Board didn’t make the cut, we’re sad to say.
(Supported controllers include the Gamepad, the Pro Controller, the Novice Controller, the Classic Controller, the Wii Remote, the Wii Remote and Nunchuck combo, as well as the mythical Upside Down Nunchuck)"
Are there any unique features in the Wii U version of the game?
[NDG]: Off-screen multiplayer on the gamepad is something no other version can claim fame to… especially while on the toilet.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Ss_ae210
What's your favorite aspect of Shutshimi?
[NDG]: Our sheer lack of control over what happens. Because the game has so many procedural aspects to it, it can surprise you even on the 100th playthrough! It’s the game that keeps on giving.
Thanks for answering our questions, we really appreciate it! Hopefully
we'll have the opportunity to interview you again sometime!
[NDG]: It would be nice. Maybe next time it won’t take place in a dank basement? It smells musty down here. And distinctly not like pie. How about we go to Grandma’s house?
Take Care!
[NDG]: Any time! Now it’s off to the bakery with us, we’re frothing for some key-lime baby!
Review: The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and his Square Mind (3DS eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Diving Into Madness!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Medium13
The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and his Square Mind is by far one of the most bizarre 3DS eShop titles that we've ever reviewed. It's also an incredibly unique experience, but is that all there is to the game? Continue reading our review to find out!
Developed and published by Delirium Studios, the game has you try to escape your home by solving very intricate puzzles. You must connect rooms by moving them around so that the doorway of adjoining rooms line-up! You must then travel between rooms and investigate photographs and other items to regain your sanity!
The gameplay is incredibly fun and addictive and will make you want to play just a little longer everytime it's time to take a break!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Medium14
The controls are decent, but not perfect and are sometimes too sensitive and the level of difficulty that the game possesses can become quite fiendishly difficult later in the game, but overall the game is pretty solid in this regard!
The only other issue is the lack of modes, that's right this game only has one mode to play, which would work for some genres, but is rather disappointing in this game's case.
The game is fairly lengthy, clocking in at around 8 hours, which is fairly impressive! Visually the game looks nice for an indie title on the 3DS eShop and the audio is a bit lacklustre, however it's not bad, just a bit disappointing.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Large12
Bottom-Line:
With incredibly bizarre, yet highly enjoyable gameplay, great visuals, and a decent amount of content, The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and his Square Mind for the 3DS eShop is a fantastic game worth looking into, however the lack of game modes and somewhat disappointing audio does bring the game down a bit, but overall The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and his Square Mind receives a great level of recommendation from us!
Price: £11.69/$12.99
Kickstarter: Something Classic Hopes To Bring Their Retro-Style JRPG Shadows of Adam To The Wii U If Their Campaign Is Successful!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Shadows of Nostalgia!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The indie studio Something Classic has launched a Kickstarter for their JRPG Shadows of Adam! The game is said to have a unique battle system, top-notch soundtrack, and nostalgic albeit unique style of gameplay! The base goal is $20,000, but if the game receives $25,000 in its campaign a Wii U version will be made! The developer also told us on Twitter that if the Vita stretch goal is reached that they might be able to release their game on the 3DS as well!
Here's the current status of the Kickstarter campaign for Shadows of Adam:
As of the time this article was written the Kickstarter for Shadows of Adam had raised over $7,000 of its $20,000 base goal and was less than $18,000 away from the oh so important Wii U stretch goal! The campaign still has 20 days remaining so its certainly possible that the game could still hit the Wii U stretch goal if the campaign see's a boost in-terms of backers!
Will you be backing Shadows of Adam? What do you think of the trailer/info so far? As always be sure to let us know in our comments section below!
eShop: Dual Core Should Be Hitting The Wii U eShop Soon!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Twin Stick Mayhem!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Dual-c10
Gray Fin Studios has announced that they will be submitting their upcoming twin-stick shooter Dual Core to Nintendo very soon so we should expect a release in either February or March of this year!
Here's what Gray Fin Studios had to say about their upcoming title in detail:
Gray Fin Studios wrote:Dual Core is a vibrant, futuristic, “twin-stick” style, shooter, with a strong focus on local co-op multiplayer (up to 4 players). Lots of robots, lots of lasers, lots of aliens, lots of explosions!
The numerous retro arcade influences are front and center, but spiced up with a colorful modern style, a generous helping of sci-fi intrigue, and a dash of RPG ELEMENTS! This isn’t an arena shooter (though there is an arena-style arcade mode); there’s a full story mode with a ton of handcrafted levels to explore, and battle through.
Dual Core has been in development for several years now, and originally was conceived as a mobile/tablet game – however, somewhere along the line, I realized that very few of my favorite games were actually on mobile devices, *most* of them were in fact, on the Wii U, and usually because of the local multiplayer.
So I decided to trust my instincts and that became the focus – our goal is to get players having a blast, working together, laughing, and (occasionally) yelling at the each other! One of my fondest gaming memories was playing co-op Gauntlet as a kid, and that’s still a strong influence today.
But it’s not just multiplayer – even in single player, you don’t play alone; your robot buddy “Corby” sticks with you, and battles by your side through the whole game. So in a way, it’s co-op multiplayer, even when it’s not.
You can watch the official trailer for Dual Core below:
eShop: Kick & Fennick, Devil’s Dare Will Be Headed To The Wii U!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kicking It Up On U!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Kick-f10
Abstraction Games are currently working on porting two more of their games to the Wii U eShop. The first is Kick & Fennick, which previously released on the Playstation Vita. Here's the official overview of the game:
Official Overview wrote:“ Kick & Fennick is a brand new platform adventure about a little boy with a very big gun.
Soon after waking up in a desolate but colorful world, Kick meets a small flying robot named Fennick. When Fennick saves Kick from a menacing guard robot, they find out Fennick’s battery is broken. Together, they embark on an adventure to the Core Tower to find Fennick a new energy core.
Besides shooting down enemy robots, Kick can make huge jumps by using his gun’s powerful recoil. Jump and shoot your way through 45 levels of collapsed skyscrapers, treadmills, bouncypads, magnets, teleporters and that big guard robot who’s never far behind!
Kick & Fennick features colorful 3d graphics, detailed animation, a cinematic camera system and smooth character movement and physics. “
Here's the official trailer for Kick & Fennick below:
Here's the official overview for Devil's Dare:
Official Overview wrote:“Devil’s Dare is a 2D zombie beat’em up, supporting up to 4 players to co-op and fight together locally. Being the spritual successor to Bitejacker, Devil’s Dare carries the same theme of parodies, pitting classic game heroes against monsters straight out of 90s horror movies.
Devil’s Dare doesn’t just relies on grinding and leveling up, but instead introduces permadeath to keep players on their toes. With every kill, the player makes some cash, which you can use to purchase upgrades or save it to revive when you’re dead. When you run out of cash completely, you are dead for good and it’s time to start over again. This is a mechanic inspired by the good old arcade days, where every death meant another penny wasted!
Our main influence were some of Capcom’s classics like Alien vs. Predator, Battle Circuit, Final Fight as well as Sega’s Streets of Rage Series. So if you were a fans of those, give it a shot. I’m sure you will find something to love in Devil’s Dare. “
And finally here's the trailer for Devil's Dare (Below)
We recently had the opportunity to interview Mike Gale from Disaster Cake Games about their upcoming JRPG Soul Saga which will be hitting the Wii U eShop later this year! And we managed to learn quite a bit more about the game! Without further ado here's the interview in its entirety:
Interview wrote:Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRG3IEXtgg2uLxYGgYqxb885KYhSuQpVgUb40Vr4GZ6OpOiPlXhMcGAM-CX
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions, we really appreciate it!
[DisasterCake]: No problem!  I'm excited to be able to share Soul Saga's progress with you!
How long has Soul Saga been in development?
[DisasterCake]: "The idea of me wanting to make an RPG started when I was in elementary school. I pondered many different stories over time, but I got very serious about it 6 years ago and started Soul Saga. I was a very young developer at the time, and I used Soul Saga as motivation as I taught myself about every aspect of game development so I could act as the lead programmer, producer, and director on my own game project one day. In 2013 Soul Saga had a successful Kickstarter campaign that allowed me to reboot the production and make it significantly better.
Even though the Kickstarter was successful, the amount it raised was only a fraction of the cost it took to make a professional, polished, 3D JRPG like Soul Saga, so a lot of sacrifice had to go into the development. Personally, I've worked ~100 hours a week for almost 3 years now. After a lot of hard work and sacrifice, Soul Saga is finally reaching the finish line of production, and I'm hoping to share it with everyone in the middle of this year."
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSsSus-z2GSa3XUORoyICY-SJ05w-TIQ3NtzIrhhTcZqJgvstPKIwyfxsAn
Can you tell us a bit about the unique gameplay features of Soul Saga?
[DisasterCake]: "Oh boy, where do I begin?!
Well there's the airship exploration, which takes place in a 3D roaming environment and is very Skies of Arcadia inspired. I spiced it up a bit by adding a boosting effect that allows the player to travel much faster after they've progressed through the game and upgraded their airship. I haven't talked a lot about that yet, but I'll be getting into it more in the next update soon.
The airship combat is done in a live-action style from a side view where you'll be able to actively dodge the enemy attacks while firing off your own weapons. It's paced a little differently from a normal shooter game, and your airship and the enemies have HP instead, so it's more akin to an Action RPG styled combat, but in an airship. Your airship can be outfit with different shielding, engines, boosters, and your weapon rack can carry up to 3 different weapons so you can cycle in combat to use the weapon best for the situation.
For example, a Grumplin balloon will bounce projectiles back at the player, but not the flame thrower. Or an enemy might have an attack that's very dangerous close up, so you'll have to use a rail gun to fire from a distance. At the moment there's about 10 weapon types planned for the airship in total, and this number may adjust as testing progresses.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQunYB1HRnU3s3mQQdSy4VDxxRXi757ldQg44WpLqvuoSewpN9e4WnVSdo
On the field, combat is very classic turn-based JRPG inspired. The difference between older RPGs is that in Soul Saga when it's your turn you can choose the exact order your members act in so you can have the flexibility for maximum strategy. There's some really cool additions I'll be making to the combat system that will be announced later on.
On the field there's also the lunchbox system, which allows each character to fill their own lunchbox up at a cooking point, and then they use those items for healing in and out of combat. This helps limit the amount of healing items available so you can strategically decide which you carry and adds in the fun of crafting and customization.
There's the "shenanigan" system, which allows you to take different actions under certain circumstances. It's used often in boss battles for extra features related to defeating the boss, and it's also used to revive party members when they fall. So instead of just throwing a reviving item on them, you use Shenanigan to help them get back up. If they keep falling, then you'll need to use the Shenanigan skill more times to revive them.
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR43mtcszslCfRNOb_9_2NeYy3DSS3j0eDSOsOMVDWeYJEocWlejq09pUQ
There's also difficulty modes that can be changed at anytime for both Airship Combat and Field Combat. The 3 modes are: Cake, Vanille, and Jacked. There's a 4th locked mode that is reserved for a New Game+ tailored for the most experienced players.
There's weapon crafting and enhancements. Right now in the beta there's just a placeholder system, but a more robust one will be announced and implemented soon.
Another unique thing outside of the game is with the actual development of Soul Saga. Soul Saga's backers have a forum at http://forums.disastercake.com where they can create polls to suggest gameplay features. I'm VERY open to fan feedback and am constantly communicating with fans to make sure their needs are met to the best of my abilities. I wouldn't be where I am without Soul Saga's amazing fans, so I care about them deeply!
There's even more features in Soul Saga I'll be revealing later. I can't wait to share them with you!"
We've heard that you've got some talented voice actors/actresses and
talented musicians that have been working with you on Soul Saga. Who
are these talented individuals?
[DisasterCake]: "Soul Saga's soundtrack is one of its most endearing qualities. I feel that music is one of the most important things for a JRPG, so I spent a lot of time working with several very talented composers to make sure you only get the best tunes!
We have a lot of music from the famous Steven's Universe composers Aivi Tran and Surasshu. Here's some of their contributions:
Home Above The Clouds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXERGlTPabs
Journey of the Flying Koi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaWw5KWNrZI
Into the Wild: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0e0dgYeRQ4
Victory!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6x8ttZ4K2o
Our biggest contributor to the music is Ryan Camus, who is working hard on fleshing out a robust soundtrack for you. Some examples of his contributions to Soul Saga are the airship battle themes and world map music:
Rough Sailing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH1EQL6hfmE
To Adventure!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMGwPADjd1s
Max Altitude: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUY7hEtuLp8
Right now we're still planning to utilize the original Mithos and Elise voice actors: Todd Haberkorn (Natsu from Fairytail) and Kira Buckland. Voice acting is one of those things you deal with at the very end of game development. It's really the final seal of quality placed.
The reason you deal with it at the end is because once the Voice Acting is done, it's very difficult to go back and redo it if any dialogue gets touched up or scenes adjusted. Once I'm closer to the end of development we'll get all the other actors cast and announced. Very exciting times!"
Approximately how long would you say the main story of the game will be?
[DisasterCake]: This is something that is constantly increasing as I add more content to Soul Saga. I'll definitely let you know closer to release how much I was able to squeeze in for you!
Can you tell us anything new regarding Soul Saga?
[DisasterCake]: "Soul Saga fans have recently voted on a goblin-like species race name in the forums. Their voices have been heard and we're now calling this race "Grumplin"! A clever portmanteau between grump and goblin which fits well with their overall demeanor. Great work, guys! Here's some concept art of the Grumplins:
What games are your inspirations for Soul Saga?
[DisasterCake]: Wow, that's quite a list! Breath of Fire, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Suikoden, Super Mario RPG, and the list really just goes on and on to all those awesome classics. Soul Saga is a love letter to all the classics that I grew up with, and I think you'll see a lot of that inspiration in here when you get to play it.
When can we expect the Wii U port of Soul Saga to hit the eShop?
[DisasterCake]: The Wii U port should be coming a few months after the Desktop version is complete. I'm hoping to release the Desktop version in June, so hopefully the Wii U version will be out within a few months after that! I'll definitely let you know more details as I get closer to those dates.
We enjoyed interviewing you, hopefully we'll get the opportunity to do
it again sometime!
[DisasterCake]: Thank you very much for your time! I'm super excited to share Soul Saga with you and can't wait to hear what you think! If you're a JRPG fan, please give me a follow on Twitter @Disastercake or on Facebook at http://facebook.disastercake.com. I love to chat with other fans!
eShop: Shutshimi Blasts its way onto the WiiU
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you feel that muscle bound macho men in video games are getting a little old and overdone rejoice, Shutshimi totally isn’t that.

Topics tagged under eshop on - Page 6 Shutsumi_zpsxzplixfl

Developed by Neon Deity Games and Published by Choice Provisions Shutshimi has players taking on the role of ……..….Muscle Bound Fish???

Yes that’s right Muscle bound fish, Muscle Bound Fish with memory problems, as they protect the seven seas with their “trusty Bullet Morphing Shotguns”. Shutshimi is classic Shoot em up that has players battling waves of enemies, collecting power–ups and battling awesome bosses.

Shutshimi isn’t just another Shump title though as its Ten Second Combat and Upgrade cycles add an extra layer of difficulty and gameplay that sets it apart from similar titles.

The WiiU version of the game will feature Co-op and Off-Tv Play via the Gamepad. Though the game has been released on the PSN Network and Steam for a bit it’s just today that it has been confirmed for WiiU via the games Twitter page. Look for this title to hit the E-shop on February 4th 2016.

Review: Ascent of Kings (Wii U eShop)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ascending The Metroidvania Ladder!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under eshop on - Page 6 Wiiu_s37

Developed and published by Nostatic Software Ascent of Kings offers players hardcore retro platforming that can be quite challenging at times, but does that mean that the game is without faults? No, but it certainly is a solid decent game and here's why:

In Ascent of Kings you play the role of a young prince who must climb a sacred mountain to attain kinghood. Your four brothers who set out before you will give you items that will aid you and allow you to progress further into the game! The shrines that are scattered throught the mountain provide your character with health and oxygen upgrades which is will prove to be helpful as well.

Topics tagged under eshop on - Page 6 630x37

The platforming itself can be tricky at times with hazards and challenging jumps to be made, along with levers, pitfalls, lava, and more that will test your eye-hand coordination as well as your reflexes.

The controls are a quite floaty and somewhat unresponsive, similar to the first Metroid title "though not as bad". The game also features Off-TV-Play and that's a great feature in any game, especially when it functions flawlessly as it does in Ascent of Kings!

Topics tagged under eshop on - Page 6 630x38

One of the HUGE downfalls of the game is that it's incredibly short, so short in-fact that it can be beaten 100% in less than an hour. The other downfall of this game is the lack of replay value after completing everything in the game. There's no hidden bonuses or easter eggs to unlock which really hurts a Metroidvania style platformer such as this one.

The soundtrack and retro ambience of the game is truly great and is one of the better aspects of the game and visually Ascent of Kings is just oozing with retro goodness, enough said! We truly enjoyed the audio-visual presentation of the game!

Topics tagged under eshop on - Page 6 630x39

Bottom-Line:

With enjoyable, yet challenging gameplay, excellent controls complete with flawless Off-TV-Play as an option, and a superb audio-visual presentation, Ascent of Kings could have been a truly great game, however the lack of content and replay value seriously hurts our overall opinion of the game. Nonetheless we still enjoyed it a fair amount so Ascent of Kings receives a decent recommendation from us!

Price: $1.99

Developer's Interview: Our Discussion With Rainy Night Creations Regarding Their Upcoming Title FreezeMe!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Top Secret Information Regarding FreezeMe Is Revealed!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under eshop on - Page 6 Freeze11

FreezeMe is an upcoming 3D platformer that will be hitting the Wii U eShop next week so we decided to contact the developer of the game, Rainy Night Creations to find out more about their upcoming title! Here's the interview in its entirety:

Interview wrote:Hello! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions!

[RNC]:

Hello WiiWareWave! Thanks for the interview!

Topics tagged under eshop on - Page 6 630x36

What games inspired you to develop FreezeMe?

[RNC]:

Mainly Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie.
But there are a lot of my favorite childhood games there, like Zelda OOT, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, etc…

Some people say it looks more to Galaxy than 64, there is certainly a faux gravity mechanic in some places inspired by the aforementioned title, but when you play the game you will see the differences.

How does the freezing mechanic work in FreezeMe?

[RNC]:

The main character has a special camera, you can aim at anything that moves within a range and Freeze it for a short period of time.

The way of Freezing the objects depends on the controller you are using you can tap on the Wii U Gamepad, Aim with the Wii Remote or use the right bumper on the Wii U Pro Controller.

The freezing is needed to overcome some obstacles or resolves some puzzles. But you can also use it to make platforming easier if some cases.

Topics tagged under eshop on - Page 6 Freeze13

How much content in-terms of stages/worlds and collectibles does FreezeMe possess?

[RNC]:

There are 4 main worlds + 6 challenge levels + the HUB.

You have to collect 40 Golden Cubes and 80 Green Coins.

There are also 14 Salamanders that are not required to finish the game but will unlock some cool stuff after completion.

How long did it take your team to develop FreezeMe?

[RNC]:

I´m a solo developer, this took a bit more than 3 years of my life.

What made you decide to develop a 3D platformer?

[RNC]:

There are a many games that left me a mark when I was teenager, but mainly two, Metal Gear Solid 1 PSX and Super Mario 64.

I always wanted to develop something similar to those games, and well this time I went for Mario.

What is your favorite aspect of FreezeMe?

[RNC]:

The size of the worlds. That was the thing that impressed me the most when I got to play Mario 64 for the first time, the feeling of roaming around in a big and colorful world.

Topics tagged under eshop on - Page 6 Freeze14

When can we expect the game to be released in AUS/NZ, EU, and JP?

[RNC]:

For AUS/NZ, EU as soon as I get the ratings from PEGI, USK and ACB. That´s beyond me at this stage and I don´t have any specific dates. Hope it happens soon.

For JP is a little bit trickier, we are not allowed to publish for Wii U JP unless you are a established company there, and I am not, so I would have to go through a publisher. Let´s see how it goes.

Thanks for answering our questions! Hopefully we'll have the opportunity to interview you again in the future!

[RNC]:

Thank you for making this happen and take care!

Take care!

Model Train Simulation At Its Finest!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Medium10
Developed and published by Big John Games, Lionel City Builder 3D: Rise of the Rails is easily the best locomotive simulation title released on the 3DS eShop to date and here's why!
The gameplay is extremely self explanatory, you drive a train and casually enjoy the scenery while picking up and dropping off passengers and cargo. The mission mode is basically a tutorial of creative mode that teaches you how to get the most out of the game. The cool thing about this game is its city customization which allows you to create a scenic train route by creating a location packed full of hundreds of different buildings and landmarks!
Topics tagged under eshop on  - Page 6 Medium11
The controls are really simple and easy to learn which is nice. Don't expect much challenge from Lionel City Builder 3D: Rise of the Rails as the game is very casual in nature and focuses more on the creative side of things.
Visually the game looks great with detailed 3D models, fluid graphics with little to no slowdown, and great lighting effects! The audio is fantastic as well with Lionel quality authentic train sounds which will put a smile on any train enthusiast's face!
Bottom-Line:
With great gameplay, excellent controls, and a fantastic audio-visual presentation Lionel City Builder 3D: Rise of the Rails for the 3DS eShop is the best train simulation title currently available on the service and we highly recommend the game to any train enthusiast who owns a 3DS family handheld!
