Hardcore Games?

What is the definition of a hardcore game to you? Do you believe there is actually such a thing? What games do you consider Hardcore, and why?

RPG's and difficult games are generally considered hardcore e.g. Donkey Kong Country Returns,Xenoblade Chronicles,Arc Rise Fantasia etc. games that are easy or are meant to be relaxing are considered casual e.g. Animal Crossing,Mario Party 2,Go Vacation etc. I think I covered my thoughts.

The term is kinda broad. A game thats usually considered hardcore is a game that would utterly and completely destroy a casual gamer. A game that you have to put lots of time and effort into to beat. A difficult game. That being said. I honestly dont know what to consider a hardcore game. To some is Mario and to others its Call of Duty.
