Nintendo fans have been hoping and waiting for a Virtual Console release of the SNES RPG EarthBound ever since the Wii console launched, but during today's Nintendo Direct the amazing news was finally announced that the much loved title is coming to the Wii U Virtual Console.

Launched in Japan as Mother 2, a North American release seemed almost impossible due to licencing issues, but it seems that Nintendo overcame those issues!

Are you excited and surprised that Earthbound is finally headed to the Virtual Console service? Let us know!

This ND was the first ND where I watched the Japanese one first so, when I went to watch the NA, I was confused at the EB news

Quite possibly the best ND news I have ever heard. This will be a day one purchase for me so I can final retire my cartridge.

I bought this game at EB games, when it originally launched in a bundle with a game guide. I think it cost like $60 plus tax back then. One of the best RPGs I've ever played, but I don't think I'd be able to play through the whole game over again.
