What was the first mario game that you played?

My first game in the series was Super Mario Bros. 2 USA I know it wasn't a "real" mario game, but it remains one of my favorites to this day!

My first Mario game was a hacked version of the original on a Chinese "50-games-in-1" kind of thing :/ But if you're talking legit games, then it's Super Mario 64 DS! And it was an amazing game!

It should be said that most likely at that time you didn't realise that it was an illegally created game.

Anyways my first was Super Mario Bros. for the NES, which I feel is one of the weakest 2D Mario titles, my favorite being Super Mario Bros. 3, though I do like Super Mario World almost as much.

Mine was the Donkey Kong Arcade Cabinet. Then finally played on my first NES system Super Mario Brothers on the NES. (since then i've got 2 copies)

Has anybody else here played this one Mario game? It wasn't actually available for purchase in stores, and I believe it had to of been released sometime in the late 80's or very early 90's. You played as Mario against the usual cast of characters, but the gameplay layout was totally different. Instead of platforming from left to right, you would find your way from the bottom of the screen upwards through platforms and pipes. With the usual Mario world enemies posing as your main obstacles. The textures and backgrounds were all dark like inside of the castles in Super Mario Bros.. I believe it was a very rare cartridge, and I didn't actually own it for myself either. I played it at some kid's house I met, when I was about 10 years of age. Which would've been sometime in 1991. Does anybody have any idea at all about what Mario game I'm referring to? It's not Wrecking Crew!

Mine was Super Mario Kart it was such a fun and challenging game!

I can't even remember which Mario game was the first I played. It was either Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario World or Super Mario Kart on my friends' Super Nintendo. The first Mario game I played on a Nintendo console I owned was Mario Kart 64, which my parents still say is the perfect game.

The first that I played but I didn't like it too much was Donkey Kong on the Spectrum.

It looks awful.

SMB3 on the GBA, but I think it was the Mario bros minigame just because one of the sprites on the screen reminded me of Sonic (my first game ever)

It may have been, but it was on an NES cartridge. I only ever seen it once in my life. I'll check out some screenshots of the Atari 2600 version to verify.
