Knights of Grayfang...ENGAGE!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  Oip_2910
Developed by Exe-Create and published by KEMCO, Knights of Grayfang is yet another rock-solid retro-style JRPG by the prolific games publisher KEMCO! Does this game hold up well against its predecessors already available on the Nintendo Switch console? We think so and here's why:
Topics tagged under kemco on  Keywwo10
The story in Knights of Grayfang is the game's strong-point with excellent storytelling, superb character development, and a very interesting plot which is always a good thing! The gameplay should feel quite familiar if you've played a lot of KEMCO's previous titles, but everything is improved upon from the o0lder titles.
The game has much more intricate puzzles than we've seen in previous KEMCO JRPG's which is enjoyable. The controls are intuitive and easy to learn as expected from a KEMCO title. The game's difficulty is pretty easy for the most part, but gets a bit challenging in the later part of the story. The game is also fairly lengthy clocking in at around 35 hours in length.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Knight10
As for the audiovisual presentation? Well the pixel graphics are done exceedingly well in this KEMCO release and look like something straight out of the SNES or GBA. The world is has quite a few details as do the character and enemy sprites which is nice! And as for the audio-presentation, the sound effects are handled quite well and the soundtrack fits the game perfectly, there's really not much else to say here.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Oip_3110
Bottom-Line: With a unique story, good gameplay, flawless controls, and a great retro-style audiovisual-presentation, Knights of Grayfang for the Nintendo Switch is great JRPG in its own right and as such we highly recommend adding it to your library of games if you're a fan of the genre!
A Tanky Wolf!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under kemco on Chrome10

Developed by MAGITEC and published by KEMCO Chrome Wolf is a unique JRPG featuring tank-based battles which is definitely a departure from their more traditional retro-rpg's, but is it a worthwhile game? We think so and here's why:

Topics tagged under kemco on Chrome11

The story in Chrome Wolf is riveting and super interesting and will leave you on the edge of your seat more often than not making it one of the strongest points of the game! While the gameplay is good, with a robust class system, unique tank-based battles that are a blast to play!

There are some issues, however as the controls are a bit cumbersome, the random encounters happen WAY too frequently, and some of the dungeons are a little confusing to navigate which is unfortunate since the rest of the game was a solid 9/10, but the game as a whole is still decent-to-solid and worth a purchase if you're a fan of the genre! The game clocks in at around 20-25 hours in-length which while short is typical of old-school JRPG's, the only negative here is that there isn't any post-game content, sadly.

Topics tagged under kemco on Chrome12

The audiovisual-presentation in Chrome Wolf is quite good and will make you feel like you're playing an old-school JRPG on an SNES console which is exactly what you'd hope for when playing a retro-style title on a modern console! The soundtrack is also really good with catchy tunes that fit the game quite nicely!

Topics tagged under kemco on Chrome13

Bottom-Line: With good gameplay, an excellent and compelling story, and a superb audiovisual-presentation, Chrome Wolf is a fun game for sure, but also has its share of flaws such as somewhat cumbersome controls, random encounters that were too frequent for our liking, and somewhat confusing dungeon layouts, but overall our experience was a positive one and as such we give Chrome Wolf for the Nintendo Switch a solid-level of recommendation!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Raging Good Time!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under kemco on Oip_2310

Developed by Hit-Point and published by KEMCO, Raging Bytes is a huge departure from KEMCO's more traditional fantasy-based retro-styled JRPG's they are best-known for, but it's a welcome breath of fresh air for sure! Continue reading our review to find out why we enjoyed this game so much!

Topics tagged under kemco on Th_110

Raging bytes at its core is a hybrid combination of the JRPG and survival horror genres and does a fantastic job at blending the two genres together harmoniously! The story is dark with many interesting characters and a stylish presentation that looks amazing and sets the atmosphere for the game's horror setting.

The gameplay loop has you finding items and survivors to help you survive the apocalypse while battles are conducted in more traditional JRPG flair. This works better than we ever would have imagined and was executed flawlessly in this game! The game is fairly short clocking in at under 20 hours in length and the controls are intuitive and easy to use!

Topics tagged under kemco on Raging11

The soundtrack in Raging Bytes is fantastic and every single song fits the game's mood like a glove.

Topics tagged under kemco on Oif10

Bottom-Line: With an amazing story, great gameplay, intuitive controls, a stylish visual presentation, and superb soundtrack, Raging Bytes is an unforgettable experience that no survival horror or JRPG fan should miss out on, as such, we give the game a nearly-perfect level of recommendation!

Heirs To A Great Adventure!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  Unname13
Developed by EXE CREATE and published by KEMCO, Heirs of The Kings is another superb retro-style JRPG by the long running publisher. How much did we enjoy our playthrough of the game? Continue reading our review to find out!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Unname14
The gameplay of Heirs of The Kings is great fun with a riveting story that's a step above most of KEMCO's previous releases which were fantastic in their own right. The game also features great gameplay that will be familiar, but also adds new elements such as a Final Fantasy X style skill board, and many new quality of life features that make this game a joy to play! The game is decent in-terms of length too, clocking-in at around 30-35 hours to beat, and though a tad easy, the game's difficult is pretty balanced and fair.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Unname15
As for the audiovisual-presentation of Heirs of The Kings, it's easily one of KEMCO's finest works yet, with highly detailed and gorgeos pixel art, amazing character and enemy designs, and a very snazzy UI. While on the audio side of things, the music fits the mood as always in a KEMCO game, however the sound quality of said tracks and sound effects is a step-up and sounds like pure ear candy!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Unname16
Bottom-Line: With an amazing story, great gameplay, and a top-notch audiovisual-presentation, Heirs of The Kings is a top-notch retro-inspired JRPG that is a blast to play, and with no negatives to speak of, there's just no reason not to add this fantastic game to your Switch JRPG library and as such, we give Heirs of The Kings a nearly perfect level of recommendation!
Review: Sword of Elpisia (Switch eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Forging Solid Bonds!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  Sword-10
Developed by EXE-CREATE and published by KEMCO, Sword of Elpisia is solid JRPG with an incredibly unique story even compared to other KEMCO titles we've reviewed. Does this game live up to its predecessors? We think so, but you'll need to read the rest of the review to find out why!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Sword-11
Sword of Elpisia tells a gripping story of a girl who loses everything to protect the people she cares about and her quest to regain what she's lost. As far as KEMCO games go, Sword of Elpesia's story is one of the better ones with some heavy-hitting moments that will make you feel for the characters on a level few other KEMCO games accomplish. That said the gameplay in SoE takes a huge step back from recent KEMCO titles with much more simplistic mechanics that feel quite dated and lackluster at times, but despite this there's nothing inherently wrong with it and the game is still fun if you don't mind extremely old-school gameplay.
The game has a few minor nuances such as skills being tied to your weapons for a bit of customization for your characters and the game has some decent side content such as optional recruitable animal familiars, an optional dungeon that can be unlocked in the premium shop with a small amount of premium points that can be obtained in-game, as well as post-game content, including an extra story scenario, bonus dungeon, and a battle arena to name a few of the post-game goodies.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Elp-1-10
The game is actually pretty difficult at the higher difficulty settings so expect a challenge if you try to tackle the game on hard difficulty. The controls in the game are intuitive and easy to learn which is always nice. Now something that isn't so nice is the frequent minor frame-rate drops in the Switch version of the game, which while not a major issue did hamper our enjoyment of the game slightly at times.
As for the audiovisual-presentation, SoE is a HUGE step-up from the previous KEMCO games we've previously reviewed, visually speaking. It's not going to blow players minds or anything like that, but in-general is detailed and is quite pleasing to look at. And lastly the music fits the game's atmosphere quite well and is a bit more varied than in previous KEMCO titles, but is definitely one of the game's weak points. Still we'd say the soundtrack is still pretty good!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Elp-410
Bottom-Line: With solid gameplay, a fantastic story, intuitive controls, and excellent retro visuals, Sword of Elpisia is a good JRPG that most fans of the genre will likely enjoy, however some performance issues do hold the game back a bit. Overall, however we believe the game is still well worth its price and therefore we give the game a good level of recommendation!
The story in Armed Emeth is great as expected from a KEMCO game, but what's not always a given is the gameplay which is so different from other KEMCO games or JRGP's in general I feel the need to give it extra points just for its fresh take on the genre. The game itself is quite short at less than 20 hours from start to finish and can be a bit easy at times, but I enjoyed every minute of my playthrough.
The controls are serviceable and would be rather concerned if they weren't since we're talking about a turn based JRPG.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Apps_511
The graphics in the game while not technically impressive are good enough to earn a passing grade with a good art direction. The soundtrack and retro sfx on the other hand are sublime and worthy of high praise! We can't stress how nostalgic the audio presentation is!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Armed-10
Bottom-Line: With a great story, fresh and enjoyable gameplay, decent graphics, and sublime soundtrack, Armed Emeth for the Switch is a highly enjoyable JRPG that we can't recommend enough to fans of the genre! We give the game an excellent level of recommendation!
Seasonal Fun!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under kemco on Chroma10

Developed by Exe-Create and published by KEMCO, Chroma Quaternion is another colorful and cheery JRPG from the prolific developer, and it is a REALLY good one this time! Continue reading our review to find out just how much we recommend this amazing JRPG!

Topics tagged under kemco on Chroma11

The story in Chroma Quaternion is one of the best that KEMCO and Exe-Create has ever created from the selection of games that they have developed and published on dedicated gaming devices, the characters are extremely likeable, there are hilarious jokes abounding within the more serious overarching story, and possibly our favorite aspect are the guest characters Elimi and Extermi, who happen to be loveable idols in the game. The story is at least 25 hours in length, but to complete it will take most players 40+ hours.

The gameplay in Chroma Quaternion is quite refined with elements from many previous KEMCO titles including a job class system, 3x3 grid battle system, and plenty other mechanics that all blend together harmoniously. The difficulty is relatively easy, though a few difficulty spikes might require short level grinding, but nothing that detracts from the enjoyment factor of the game. As for the controls there's nothing negative to report as expected from a turn-based JRPG.

Topics tagged under kemco on Chroma12

The audiovisual presentation in Chroma Quaternion is a real treat with colorful visuals, vibrant and detailed characters, and varied environments and the 2-D anime style story scenes are more vibrant than in other KEMCO titles which gives the game even more character. The soundtrack is extremely good and sets the tone for the entire game while the music tracks are varied and catchy and will leave players humming the tunes long after they have finished the game!

Topics tagged under kemco on 59502410

Bottom-Line: With a great story, excellent gameplay, and a nearly perfect audiovisual presentation, Chroma Quaternion is one JRPG we cannot recommend enough! We give the game an great level of recommendation to all fans of RPG's!

Crystal Amazing!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  Crysta10
Developed by Hit-Point and published by KEMCO Crystal Ortha is a love-letter to retro RPG's of the 90's and does a great job emulating the games that it's inspired by, but does it live up to those legendary titles? Not quite, but it is still an amazing game in its own right, and here's why:
Topics tagged under kemco on  Crysta11
The story in Crystal Ortha is quite enjoyable with several twists and turns that you won't be expecting and the pacing of the story is perfect. The characters are likable and grow as the story progresses and the setting of the world is rather interesting! The gameplay is like a blend of Final Fantasy IV, Secret of Mana, Romancing Saga, and Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest, with a whole bevy of interesting features and gameplay elements that will draw players into the game's enjoyable world.
The game is also exceptionally challenging as there are no healing items to restore your characters which forces you to carefully plan your next move as skills and inns are the only ways to heal. As for the controls, they are intuitive and easy to master, which is always a good thing.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Crysta12
The audiovisual presentation is decidedly old-school and we enjoyed every bit of it between the gorgeous pixel-art and absolutely amazing soundtrack. Overall the game has this old-school feel and sound, but with a superb modern touch which makes it look and sound amazing!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Crysta13
Bottom-Line: With amazing retro-style gameplay, a superb story, and excellent audio-visual presentation, Crystal Ortha for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch is a highly enjoyable experience that any and all fans of the genre should purchase and as such we give the game a great level of recommendation!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Liege-11
The story in Liege Dragon is one of ancestry, friendship, and betrayal with plot-twists will keep you returning time and time again. The characters are charming and likable, and their personal growth is very apparent over the course of the game's 20-25 hour long story. The gameplay is rather interesting with characters facing hordes of enemies at once. Each enemy cluster loses strength as the cluster gets weeded out as it takes damage which adds a fun layer of strategy to the game. The controls are fully serviceable and the difficulty can be super hard at times which might be off puting to some players.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Liege-12
The graphics are nice enough with good retro inspired 16-bit characters and world and nice visual novel like story scenes which looks amazing. The music is also great with some rockin' chiptunes that will entertain most retro aficionados.
Bottom-Line: With a great story, good gameplay, and excellent audiovisual presentation we give Liege Dragon for the Nintendo Switch and PS4 a great level of recommendation!
Review: Alphadia Genesis (PS4 PSN) (Switch eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

War of The Clones!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  Wiiu_172
Developed and published by KEMCO Alphadia Genesis is a JRPG that combines SNES era elements with some modern elements thrown in and features a fully 3-D battle system, but are these features enough to give this game an edge over its competition? Keep reading to find out!
Alphadia Genesis' story is part medieval fantasy and part sci-fi and involves the typical ragtag group of characters that must work together to prevent a rebellion, but it later becomes a journey to save the entire world! While we can't get much into the details without spoiling the story, we can say that the characters are unique and the development of the characters and relationships between them is presented flawlessly in this game!
The gameplay is standard RPG fare with random battles, great storytelling, and alot of experience grinding "late game", but this game has almost perfected the classic formula to the point that it still feels like a fresh experience! The energy ring system is similar to the magic system in some of the Final Fantasy titles where your party members can essentially learn any magic in the game by equipping energi rings and battling while they're equipped! The game also has many sidequests and guild missions to tackle which adds many hours to the game for completionists!
The only major complaint that we have with the game is that the difficulty is far too easy early on, but suddenly spikes to being a little too difficult after a certain point in the game. It's certainly not gamebreaking, but it is an issue nonetheless.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Wiiu_173
Alphadia Genesis also has a superb soundtrack that not only fits the game well, but also is very memorable! The Japanese voice acting "which is turned off by default" is quite a nice touch and those of you who are fans of the Sword Art Online anime series should instantly recognize the main character Fray's voice actor! The other sound effects in the game are decidedly retro, but work well with the game.
As for the graphics the 2-D world map, towns, and dungeons look quite nice and will remind players of classic 16-bit RPG's and the anime-style character portraits during cut-scenes look gorgeous. The battles on the other hand are in 3-D and though the battle effects and character models are a little rough around the edges the overall feel will remind players of classic RPG's such as Wild Arms and certain Dreamcast RPG's!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Wiiu_174
Bottom-Line:
With a great story, excellent gameplay, superb soundtrack, and for the most part excellent graphics Alphadia Genesis is a game that any fan of the RPG genre should purchase, however issues with the difficulty curve and slightly unpolished visuals during battles prevent this game from receiving a perfect score. Regardless we still highly recommend downloading this game!
Review: Sephirothic Stories (PS4 PSN)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Another KEMCO Masterpiece?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  Sephir12
Developed by Exe-Create and published by KEMCO, Sephirothic Stories is an adventure RPG with some interesting mechanics and a great story! Best of all it's the first fully 3D game that KEMCO has released on home consoles. Is it the best KEMCO game we've reviewed? No, but it's still a top-notch game in many aspects and here's why:
Topics tagged under kemco on  Sephir11
The game's story is pretty good even if it's cliche and plays things safe for the most part. The gameplay feels quite interesting despite being very rudimentary. You won't be wowed, but you should enjoy it nonetheless. The game is fairly short, clocking in at under 20 hours in length. The controls are easy to learn which is always a plus.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Sephir14
The audio-visual presentation is where the game struggles alot. The 3D visuals are quite clunky and while I wouldn't call them ugly, Exe-Create needs to put more focus in detail for their next 3D game. The soundtrack is hit and miss, but mostly miss and while the songs are rather unimpressive they aren't bad either which is good at least.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Sephir13
Bottom-Line: With a good story, unique and fun gameplay, and flawless controls, Sephirothic Stories is a worthwhile purchase for any JRPG fan, but a somewhat lackluster audio-visual presentation holds the game back. The jump to 3D is the most noteworthy addition to this KEMCO RPG and is a fun change of pace. In any case we give Sephirothic Stories for the PS4 a solid level of recommendation!
Review: Bonds of The Skies (PS4 PSN)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Solid Bonds!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  Top-bo10
Developed by Hit-Point and published by KEMCO, Bonds of the Skies is a fantastic budget JRPG that will keep fans of the genre entertained for many hours! Is this KEMCO's best game yet? Nope, but it's still a blast to play and here's why:
Topics tagged under kemco on  1-bond10
Bonds of The Skies has solid gameplay that is unique in various aspects, of course random encounters are in which we rather enjoy every now and then, battles are relatively straightforward, but there are some nuances such as being able to move characters around in your formation mid-battle without using a turn to increase damage given or save yourself if you're low on health by retreating to the back of your formation.
Elements play a HUGE role in the game and quite frankly make the enemies far too challenging for even intermediately skilled players in many instances, especially later in the game. Luckily we previously reviewed the 3DS version so we knew how to tackle the game this time around! Still if you like a serious challenge you should enjoy Bonds of The Skies.
Topics tagged under kemco on  6-bond10
The story is pretty unique as expected from KEMCO so be prepared for a fun romp through the world of Eil, but don't expect any major plot-twists to catch you off guard this time around. Bonds of The Skies is rather short clocking in at around 30 hours in length so don't expect a 100 hour epic adventure.
The controls are easy to learn as expected from a throwback 16-bit JRPG titles which is nice. We also liked the character and enemy designs in Bonds of The Skies. The soundtrack is quite enjoyable as well and really sets the mood for the game!
Topics tagged under kemco on  3-bond10
The Playstation Difference:
The gameplay is more-or-less the same as the 3DS version, however most of the bugs are gone in this port. The game is also crossbuy with the Vita version which also happens to be PSTV compatible which is always great in our opinions!
Bottom-Line: With solid gameplay, excellent controls, and a great audio-visual presentation, Bonds of The Skies for the 3DS is a great game that most fans of the RPG genre should thoroughly enjoy, however the difficulty and short length of the game might be off-putting for some. Regardless we give Bonds of The Skies for the 3DS a good level of recommendation!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Decent Mechanics Make A Glacier-Solid Game!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  H2x1_n10
Developed by Exe-Create and published by KEMCO, Alvastia Chronicles is a decent attempt at recreating the greatness of the 16-bit era, however it falls short in many ways, but regardless is still a solid JRPG! Keep reading our review to learn more!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Alvast10
The story of Alvastia Chronicles is pretty straightforward and doesn't do much that we haven't seen before, but what's there is pretty good stuff. The gameplay on the other-hand is pretty unique. It's basically The Last Remnant in 16-bit form in the way it utilizes squads of characters who fight together as one with a united HP pool and multiple attacks, which is quite enjoyable, but the mechanics are definitely watered down so don't expect complex unit commands and such.
The game itself is somewhat short and can be beaten in 20 hours or less if you don't focus on side-quests and collecting all units in the game. The controls are easy to learn and the game's difficulty is a tad on the easy side. Another great thing is that the Vita version of Alvastia Chronicles is PSTV compatible which we commend the developer for continuing to support the niche device that has long been discontinued.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Alvast11
The audio-visual presentation is decidedly retro, but unlike previous 16-bit or is this 12-bit? KEMCO titles Alvastia Chronicles has a somewhat lacklustre art-style and feels off in a sense, because in some aspects it's 8-bit while in others it's 16-bit. It sort of ruins the game's nostalgia factor that KEMCO strives for. Luckily the soundtrack is much better and not only fits the game, but is quite memorable as well!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Alvast12
Bottom-Line: With great gameplay, flawless controls, and an excellent soundtrack, Alvastia Chronicles is commendable JRPG that has potential, however a somewhat erratic visual presentation and short story hold the game back quite a bit, though the PSTV compatibility really does help if you plan on purchasing the Vita version of the game. In any case we give Alvastia Chronicles for the PS4 a solid level of recommendation!
Continue reading our review to find out why we think this is on par with KEMCO's best release on home consoles to date!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Asdivi10
The story in Asdivine Hearts II is quite hilarious at times, but can take itself seriously when necessary as well. The character development is top-notch especially if you count how the characters grow and change across both games in the series. The gameplay is more-or-less the same, although there are some pretty good tweaks that have been made to the game.
The added buddy system is the biggests change and adds more depth to the battles. These buddies aid you in battle and act as support units, boosting power, healing you, etc. The gem system also returns from the first game and it allows you to gain use of spells, boost stats, and add effects to your weapons and defense. Overall it's mostly unchanged, however it feels a bit less important this time around which is somewhat disappointing.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Asdivi11
Asdivine Hearts II, much like its predecessor is split between multiple worlds, however the worlds are actually MUCH more expansive this time around! The game is also quite a bit longer than most KEMCO published JRPG's clocking in at over 50 hours in length so don't expect to beat the game in a few days time!
The audio-visual presentation is fantastic. It still has a decidedly retro feel to it, but there are much more unique assets and the character models and cutscenes are more detailed. The soundtrack is also quite catchy and fits the game perfectly! Overall the audio-visual presentation is most certainly really good!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Asdvii10
Bottom-Line: With great gameplay, a superb story, and a great retro-style audio-visual presentation, Asdivine Hearts II is an amazing budget JRPG that will knock your socks off! And the impressive amount of content will keep you coming back for more! And lastly the game is also PSTV compatible which is always a good thing in our opinions! Overeall we give Asdivine Hearts II for the PS4 and Vita a nearly perfect level of recommendation!
Review: Marenian Tavern Story: Patty and the Hungry God (PS4 PSN)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Pub"lic Sensation!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  Unnamed-3.445x245
Developed by Rideon Inc. and published by KEMCO, Merenian Tavern Story is a very relaxed JRPG with simulation elements that clearly has been inspired by the long-running Atelier series, but has an identity and flavor of humor of its own. Is the game worth purchasing though? We think so and here's why:
Topics tagged under kemco on  Unnamed-2.445x245
The story in Merenian Tavern Story is cutesy with a quirky sense of humor. The protagonist and her family get cursed when her brother is possessed by the God of Poverty and must work at the local tavern and work off their debt while learning how to undo the possession. There's actually much more to do than simply work at the tavern though! You also gather and hunt monsters for materials in the dungeons, grow materials at the local farm, do favors for customers, and much more, which will keep you entertained and busy for quite some time.
The only downside is that the game doesn't always explain what you need to do next to advance the story, which can be somewhat annoying at times. The gameplay is very enjoyable and is very reminiscent of the Atelier series of JRPG's. The turn-based battles are quite enjoyable and the bosses require some strategic planning to defeat.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Unnamed-1.445x245
The controls are easy to learn which is always a good thing. Marenian Tavern Story is also fairly lengthy and will take most newcomers a good 30 hours to beat, but completionists will find the game is significantly longer to 100%. The audio-visual presentation is nice enough, the 16 graphics look amazing while the character art in the visual novel style cutscenes looks detailed and gorgeous. The music is pretty enjoyable as well and fits the game well!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Unnamed.445x245
Bottom-Line: With a great story that's both enjoyable and humorous, amazing gameplay, and an excellent audio-visual presentation, Marenian Tavern Story for the PS4 is a highly enjoyable game that is a blast to play and we highly recommend it to fans of the genre! We give the game a a good to great level of recommendation!
Review: Chronus Arc (PS4 PSN)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Refreshingly Decent Title!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  CA-3-Chronus-Arc-capture
Developed by Hit-Point and published by KEMCO, Chronus Arc is a solid budget RPG in many ways, but is it worth the cost? We think so, continue reading our review to learn why!
Topics tagged under kemco on  CA-2-Chronus-Arc-capture
The story in Chronus Arc is relatively straightforward and cliche, however it is still quite enjoyable despite not doing anything in its story that hasn't been done before. The gameplay is also standard JRPG fare which oozes with retro goodness, between it's retro visuals and soundtrack as well as its turn-based battles and simplistic gameplay mechanics that would feel right at home on a home console of the early to mid 90's! The gameplay is superb, but does lose some points for playing it safe and not doing anything unique, but it's still highly enjoyable!
Item collection plays a big role in Chronus Arc and the game does a good job at making the grind to complete your collection quite fun! The controls in the game are also simple and easy to master as expected from a game that emulates the style of  the 16-bit classics we all know and love!
Topics tagged under kemco on  CA-4-Chronus-Arc-capture
The game can be quite difficult later on though if you've played any major SNES JRPG this will hardly pose any trouble with beating the game! Also Chronus Arc is cross-buy and the Vita version PSTV compatible which is always good in our book!
Visually the game looks great in all of its 16-bit glory and the visual novel style story scenes look nice as well, but it's no SNES Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger so don't expect it to look as good as the best games of the 90's, regardless it still looks nostalgic and should bring back memories of playing the classics of yesteryear.
The soundtrack on the other-hand is hit and miss and more so miss. It's easily the weakest aspect of the game . The sound effects can be quite annoying as well, so unfortunately overall the audio presentation is below average.
Topics tagged under kemco on  CA-5-Chronus-Arc-capture
Bottom-Line:
With great visuals, excellent controls, and a good story that is fun to see play out, although it's somewhat cliche and predictable as well as gameplay that's great, but doesn't do anything new or unique, Chronus Arc is a worthy budget JRPG that's worth giving a shot if you enjoy JRPG's from the SNES era, but the annoying sound effects and lacklustre soundtrack do hold the game a bit, but overall we give the game a decent to solid level of recommendation!
Review: Revenant Dogma (PS4 PSN)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Darkness Ahoy!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  Revenant-dogma-rev-2
Developed by EXE-CREATE and published by KEMCO, Revenant Dogma is another solid KEMCO JRPG, but what sets it apart from the myriad of KEMCO titles already available on PSN? Continue reading our review to find out!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Revenant-dogma-rev-1
The gameplay is pretty straightforward and there isn't much that separates it from previous KEMCO JRPG's, but what it does do is pretty solid. The game possesses 3-D battles which are definitely better than those of Revenant SAGA with better frame-rate and special effects. The battles are turn-based as usual and the mechanics while simple are very enjoyable.
The story is pretty dark this time around and there are a good deal of superb plot-twists that should keep most players interested in what will happen next! The game is fairly lengthy as well, clocking in at around 35 hours in length. The game is pretty easy overall so don't expect a serious challenge, at least until the post-game content. The controls are intuitive and easy to learn which is always a good thing. And you PSTV owners will be happy to hear that Revenant Dogma is PSTV compatible!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Revenant-dogma-rev-3
Visually Revenant Dogma is generally nice looking with its 2-D world and detailed visual novel style story scenes, however the 3-D battlegrounds are a bit drab and the 3-D character and enemy models are rather blocky which detracts from the game's overall aesthetics. The soundtrack on the other hand is decent, albeit a little uninspiring. Overall the game's audio-visual presentation is average to slightly above average.
Bottom-Line:
With solid gameplay, a great story, and excellent controls Revenant Dogma is a pretty enjoyable experience, however an average audio-visual presentation does drag the overall experience down a bit, but overall we give the game a solid level of recommendation!
Review: Fernz Gate (PS4 PSN)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The "Solid" Gateway To Fun!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  900x
Developed by Exe-Create and published by KEMCO, Fernz Gate is a fairly lengthy KEMCO JRPG that actually does quite a few unique things not seen in other KEMCO games thus-far and it is a breath of fresh air! Is this enough to give the game a good level of recommendation? We think so and here's why:
Topics tagged under kemco on  900x
The story in Fernz Gate is excellent with several surprising plot-twists, unfortunately we can't explain these in detail without spoiling the game, but we can say that they're are a cut-above the usual plot-twists seen in previous KEMCO JRPG's that have been released on dedicated gaming platforms!
The gameplay is solid as expected from a KEMCO game, if you're looking for modern gameplay then look elsewhere. Fernz Gate does have the standard turn-based formula of previous KEMCO releases, but adds to it with the Buddy System, basically animal familiars who fight as allies. Your buddies can boost your abilities and even do joint attacks alongside your human characters which is a fantastic addition to the gameplay mechanics!
Topics tagged under kemco on  900x
The game's difficulty is relatively easy so don't expect to get stuck all that often. If you want to earn the platinum trophy expect to sink over 60 hours into the game at the very least. Lastly the controls are straightforward and easy to learn which is always a good thing in our opinions.
Also just so you all know the game is cross-buy between Vita and PS4 and what's more the Vita version is PSTV compatible which is not something you see very often these days.
The audio-visual presentation is pretty good with definite retro vibes while still possessing fairly detailed HD graphics. The music is also fantastic and fits the game perfectly!
Topics tagged under kemco on  900x
Bottom-Line: With great gameplay, excellent story and controls, and a superb audio-visual presentation, Fernz Gate is the perfect game for all fans of retro-style JRPG's and as such we give the game a good level of recommendation!
Review: Machine Knight (3DS eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mechanical Madness!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  MK-story
Developed by Hit-Point and published by KEMCO, Machine Knight is a traditional style JRPG that doesn't revolutionize the genre, but is still a solid RPG nonetheless. Continue reading our review to find out why we think the game is worth checking out:
Topics tagged under kemco on  MK-battle
The story of Machine Knight is much more modern in its settings than any other KEMCO JRPG we've reviewed so far which was a pleasant a refreshing surprise. The game does an excellent job of explaining the lore and technology of the world and to be frank was by far the most enjoyable aspect of the game in our opinions!
The gameplay is standard JRPG fare though the character customization via Machina Boards for each character was somewhat unique and added a bit of depth to the game. The battles are turn-based as expected from a KEMCO game, but overall the battle system was quite enjoyable albeit simple.
Topics tagged under kemco on  MK-map
The controls in Machine Knight are intuitive and easy to learn, plus the optional touch control features are very nicely done. The game itself is fairly short in length clocking in at under 30 hours in length, but is still well worth its asking price.
The audio-visual presentation is extremely good compared to KEMCO's previous 3DS releases. The game looks like a AAA SNES JRPG and in some instances looks even better than Chrono Trigger visually. The soundtrack is also absolutely sublime and fits the game perfectly. Overall the audio-visual presentation of Machine Knight is nothing short of amazing!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Machine-Knight
Bottom-Line:
With a unique and enjoyable story, solid gameplay, and excellent controls, Machine Knight is a worthwhile experience for any fans of the JRPG genre, while the flawless audio-visual presentation certainly adds alot to the game, Machine Knight's short length definitely is a disappointment. Regardless of that one drawback we give Machine Knight for the 3DS a solid level of recommendation!
Review: Dragon Sinker (Vita PSN)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Reeling Us In Hook, Line, & Sinker!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  2018-020
Hit-Point and KEMCO have always developed and published enjoyable JRPG's that are a great value for their consumers, but Dragon Sinker has a certain appeal that hasn't been seen in their previous console releases, but is that enough to award the game a perfect score? Not quite, but it came very close and here's why:
Topics tagged under kemco on  2018-021
The story is your typical fantasy fare with three races teaming up to beat an enemy none of them can vanquish on their own, but despite being very cliché it works, and is every bit as good as Final Fantasy III (NES) and Final Fantasy V (SNES). Speaking of those two Final Fantasy titles, Dragon Sinker uses a very similar job system to what those two games possessed which is as enjoyable as it sounds on paper.
Topics tagged under kemco on  2018-022
The battles are turn-based as expected and aren't all that complex, but using effective techniques and magic is paramount later on in the game, especially if you're playing on the hard difficulty setting. The game's world is surprisingly large for a game that's essentially a modern NES title and the game is fairly lengthy as well as it can take players 20-25 hours to beat the main story and an additional 8-15 hours to beat the post-game content!
Topics tagged under kemco on  2018-023
The controls in the game are about as simple as you'd expect so strategy plays a much larger role than your motor skills in this JRPG. One tip we need to share is that you'll want to backtrack and complete every quest in the game as the items and party members/job classes you'll obtain will help out immensely in the post-game content.
Dragon Sinker is also PSTV compatible which is always good news in our opinions!
Topics tagged under kemco on  2018-024
Visually the game is a real treat for retro gamers as not only is the spritework spot-on for an NES era game, Dragon Sinker also has an NES perfect color palette insuring that you'll feel like you've been transported back to the 1980's! Silliness aside, the characters are pretty varied and even change in appearance when you change their job class which is a nice touch.
The soundtrack is also nostalgic and uses genuine 8-bit chip-tunes warts and all and we loved every second of the piercingly brilliant tunes.
Topics tagged under kemco on  2018-025
Bottom-Line:
With splendid gameplay and  a nostalgic story, Dragon Sinker will have you hooked from the very beginning, while the glorious 8-bit visuals and chiptunes will remind you of a simpler and more enjoyable era of gaming! Honestly there is virtually nothing that we can complain about in this game and almost everything is done flawlessly as such we give Dragon Sinker for the Vita a nearly perfect level of recommendation!
Review: Bonds of the Skies (3DS eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Soaring High!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  Bonds-of-skies-image
Developed by Hit-Point and published by KEMCO, Bonds
of the Skies is a fantastic budget JRPG that will keep fans of the genre entertained for many hours! Is this KEMCO's best game yet? Nope, but it's still a blast to play and here's why:
Topics tagged under kemco on  Bonds-of-skies-image-2
Bonds of The Skies has solid gameplay that is unique in various aspects, of course random encounters are in which we rather enjoy every now and then, battles are relatively straightforward, but there are some nuances such as being able to move characters around in your formation mid-battle without using a turn to increase damage given or save yourself if you're low on health by retreating to the back of your formation.
Elements play a HUGE role in the game and quite frankly make the enemies far too challenging for even intermediately skilled players in many instances, especially later in the game. We honestly had a heck of a time reviewing this, between the difficulty, a bug that was later fixed in the game, and our 3DS breaking. Still if you like a serious challenge you should enjoy Bonds of The Skies. The story is pretty unique as expected from KEMCO so be prepared for a fun romp through the world of Eil, but don't expect any major plot-twists to catch you off guard this time around. Bonds of The Skies is rather short clocking in at under 30 hours in length so don't expect a 100 hour epic adventure.
Topics tagged under kemco on  Bonds-of-skies-image-3
The controls are easy to learn as expected from a throwback 16-bit JRPG. The graphics are a step-up from most of KEMCO's previous 3DS titles which is nice. We also liked the character and enemy designs in Bonds of The Skies. The soundtrack is quite enjoyable as well and really sets the mood for the game!
Topics tagged under kemco on  Bonds-of-the-skies-image-2
Bottom-Line:
With solid gameplay, excellent controls, and a great audio-visual presentation, Bonds of The Skies for the 3DS is a great game that most fans of the RPG genre should thoroughly enjoy, however the difficulty and short length of the game might be off-putting for some. Regardless we give Bonds of The Skies for the 3DS a good level of recommendation!
Review: Antiquia Lost (Vita PSN)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Half Slime Heroin Ahoy!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  AntiquiaLost5
Developed by Exe-Create and published by KEMCO, Antiquia Lost is a 16-bit JRPG with a glossy coat of HD paint and is a blast to play! Is this enough to make Antiquia Lost a worthwhile purchase for you Vita/PSTV? We think so and here's why!
Topics tagged under kemco on  AntiquiaLost3
The story of the game revolves around the protagonist who's basically human, a half-slime girl who has a gem-eating fettish, a full-fledged slime lady who's a soldier and gets lost comically easy, and a super strong cat-person who's on in years, but wise. The story is quite comical to be honest though it does have darker moments it never tries to take itself too seriously which is a nice change of pace from most modern RPG's.
The gameplay is fairly straightforward, with a few twists such as growing fruits from seeds to boost stats and feeding gems to a certain character to raise her stat and level her up. Everything else from the turn-based battles to the other nuances such as transportation is all typical RPG-fare, which isn't a bad thing at all in our honest opinions.
Topics tagged under kemco on  AntiquiaLost7
The controls are easy to learn as expected from a retro-inspired JRPG which is good. The difficulty on the other-hand is way too easy for a large portion of the game thanks to the premium shop that can be accessed early on to possibly obtain extremely overpowered equipment. Antiquia Lost is also PSTV compatible which is great for players who enjoy gaming on the big-screen.
The audio-visual presentation is decent enough, the graphics are 16-bit and clearly inspired by retro games, but the art-direction isn't quite as authentic as previous KEMCO releases which is a shame, but it still looks good. The soundtrack has a few superb tracks, but for the most part is highly forgettable.
Topics tagged under kemco on  AntiquiaLost1
Bottom-Line:
With a comical and highly enjoyable story, solid gameplay, and flawless controls Antiquia Lost for Vita/PSTV is an excellent throwback title that will remind players of a simpler more enjoyable era of the video game industry which is always a fantastic thing.
Unfortunately the premium shop that can be used for free in-game alchemy stones can break the balance of the game's difficulty and the visuals don't quite look as nice as KEMCO's previous 2D offerings and the soundtrack is rather hit-and-miss as well. Overall though, Antiquia Lost is a fun game that fans of retro RPG's should enjoy so we give the game a solid level of recommendation!
Review: Infinite Dunamis (3DS eShop)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Infinitely Solid!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under kemco on  300x10
We're huge JRPG buffs here at WiiWareWave so we always jump at the opportunity to review a new JRPG! Kemco are perhaps best known for being prolific contributors of the genre, especially on the 3DS eShop so it shouldn't come as a surprise that they've released yet another JRPG on Nintendo's aging handheld console. Does Infinite Dunamis live up to the solid to great standard of Kemco's other eShop offerings? We think so and here's why:
Infinite Dunamis possesses a steampunk-style world and story and is quite different in that regard to most of Kemco's other JRPG offerings. The battle system is fairly straightforward, however there are a few unique elements that make it feel a little more unique. The level of customization of Estelle, one of the main characters is definitely one of the highlights of the game.
Topics tagged under kemco on  300x12
The controls are easy to learn and very intuitive which is always a good thing, in-terms of difficulty, the game is no cakewalk especially later on, but it's not overly difficult either so don't expect to get stuck too often. Visually the game looks decent enough, sure it's not going to win any awards in this regard, but it still looks nice for a budget title! The sound-track on the other hand is superb and fits the mood of the game quite nicely!
Bottom-Line:
With solid gameplay, a fairly unique steampunk story, excellent controls, and a well-balanced level of difficulty, Infinite Dunamis is a rather enjoyable JRPG that fans of the genre should thoroughly enjoy! The visuals are decent enough, but the sound-track is definitely the high-point of the game. If you're a fan of Japanese roleplaying games, you'll be right at home with Infinite Dunamis!
Solid Justice!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under kemco on N3ds_j10

Developed by Hit-Point Co. and published by Kemco Games, Justice Chronicles is a fairly unique JRPG that will likely entertain you for many hours, but how does it fare to the classics in the genre, such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc.? Continue reading our review to find out the answer to that important question!

The gameplay is quite enjoyable and pretty straightforward for a JRPG at first-glance, however the beast partner system really adds a unique spin to the formula. The game also possesses a fantastic crafting system and an incredibly unique dual-layered world that'll draw you in, as well as a captivating story that'll keep you coming back for more! The game is also quite lengthy with over 40 hours of gameplay plus plenty of side-quests so don't expect to beat this game in only a few days!

Topics tagged under kemco on N3ds_j11

The controls are very intuitive and easy to learn and the optional touch-screen features are a nice touch! The game can be quite difficult, especially during the second half of the game so be prepared for a serious challenge!

Visually the game looks decent enough, it won't blow you away, but it does have a nice art-direction and the world itself looks quite unique which is a definite positive. On the audio side of things, the game is good. The sound effects are pretty basic, but the soundtrack is very good. You won't find yourself humming any of tunes in the game, but we still enjoyed the music quite a bit!

Topics tagged under kemco on N3ds_j12

Bottom-Line:

With solid to great gameplay, flawless controls that are easy to learn, as well as fantastic features such as item crafting and the partner beast system Justice Chronicles is definitely worth its price especially for JRPG fans, it also has a fairly good audio-visual presentation which helps the game's overall score! So ultimately we give Justice Chronicles a very good level of recommendation!

Review: Alphadia (3DS eShop)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Solid Energi!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under kemco on 299110

Developed by ExeCreates and published by Kemco, Alphadia is the first title in the fairly popular Alphadia series which up until now has mostly been released on mobile devices with the exception of Alphadia Genesis which released on the Wii U eShop a couple of years ago! We gave Alphadia Genesis for the Wii U an excellent score in our review of the game which can be viewed by clicking on this link, but does Alphadia live up to the fairly high bar that Alphadia Genesis set? We don't feel it does, but it's still a solid game in our opinion and here's why:

In-terms of the story, everything's fairly simplistic in a retro-RPG sort of way and for the most part nothing will really surprise you as the plot-twists are relatively weak in this game, but that being said there's still alot of substance to the plot so it isn't all bad. Perhaps the fact that we played Alphadia Genesis first might have made us aware of plot-twists beforehand so it may not be the game's fault.

Topics tagged under kemco on Alphad11

The gameplay is fairly solid and feels like a classic SNES RPG such as Final Fantasy IV, V, or VI with excellent turn-based battles, a fairly large world map, and some devilishly lengthy and challenging dungeons. The battles start off way too easy for the first 10-15 hours of the game, but once you gain access to the ship things become incredibly difficult.

The game is also fairly lengthy and will likely provide newcomers with 30-40 hours of gameplay and can take upwards of 50 hours if you're a completionist!

Visually the game looks nice! The 16-bit graphics in battles, towns, dungeons, and the world map are excellent, while the hand-drawn anime-style cutscenes look superb. The special effects can look good at times, while at others they look fairly cheap. The sound effects in the game are decidedly retro and fit the game well while the soundtrack is fantastic and will really immerse you into the game!

Topics tagged under kemco on Alphad10

Bottom-Line:

With a good story that's fairly predictable if you've already played Alphadia Genesis for the Wii U, excellent gameplay with an unbalanced difficulty level, and a mostly superb audio-visual presentation, Alphadia is far from perfect, but is still a very solid title if you're a fan of JRPG's. And as such we give the game a solid level of recommendation!
