Team Sonic Racing Review
Sonic Team
Release: May 21st, 2019
Available on: Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Steam, Xbox One
"Green Light Ride" : Introduction
Sonic and friends are back in a new racing game. Forming teams of three, they work together and take on any challenge. It is no longer a one person run, but a team. Together they can do anything
"System Start" : Race tracks, and level design
Every racing stage is set within the Sonic Universe. From past to present. Colorful areas, and wild tracks, that have multiple paths, plus numerous ways to take on obstacles. Each run is set within three laps, or if a challenge: using the drift ability to snag more rings, and rewards. Also in challenge mode, there are numerous extra missions to tackle, from taking on traffic vs Badniks, and so much more.
"System Mod" : Vehicle options
Mod parts are awarded after a race, or challenge is completed. There are numerous parts to unlock. Special parts are gold embossed, they may be shiny, but also offer perks to a gear set.
There is also a Mod Pod, you can unlock by using rings you have saved up. Each part is added to your collection, from decals, to paint, and more. Also the better you perform in each race, you can obtain even more goodies to use.
Wisp Me Away : Music & Audio
The soundtrack is amazing, and will blow you away. Featuring numerous artists like: the legendary Crush 40, Toriena, The Qemists, and many more
From rock, electronica, club, house and numerous genres are explored in the soundtrack. Plus remixes of classic themes, and new ones added to the mix.
Bringing the world to life, is the audio. Featuring an awesome delivery of sound, the torque, and speed, to tires spinning, breaks going crazy, gear shifting, or the sound fx of a Wisp giving you a boost, or support to create an obstacle for foes. Everything you interact with has a sound. Plus the impact your vehicle takes from other drivers, to the world you, and your friends are racing in.
One More Ride : Closing thoughts
Team Sonic Racing is a fun racer to play. Even though the numerous additions from Sonic & Sega All Stars Transformed may be missing. The main run of TSR delivers plenty for fans to enjoy. Also another plus: there are no microtransactions, everything you obtain is unlockable. Gear you can mod, all of it is available to you. No Season Pass either.
But in 2025. there is a new racing game in store. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Definitely something to look forward to.
By the way, there is an awesome animated mini series which was created for the game. Team Sonic Racing: Overdrive. Made by Tyson Hesse, and Neko Productions
