Religious clubs in publicschools [Extended Discussion] Empty Religious clubs in publicschools [Extended Discussion]

November 10th 2011, 5:05 pm
Is it acceptable? Is it unthinkable? Is it rude of offensive? What do you think?

I go to a Christian youth group at my local church every Tuesday night. But really, that's the only connection to God I get, because I work on Sundays and am busy most other nights. So to me, my youth group is my church time. Because of this, a lot of Christians at my school are trying to get me to join a school club called TGIF (Teens Growing In Faith) which focuses on Christianity and its teachings.

I'm as Christian as anyone and love God, but my answer is still a flat out NO. The fact is, I go to a public school and I don't think they should make religious clubs in a public school. The only time religion should be discussed is in class, such as history or study of a certain culture, for example. It sort of makes it seem like our school prefers Christianity over other religions which, in a public school, can be very rude and offensive.

So what do you think? Should I have joined the club after all? Am I making too big a deal out of this? ..
