News: Nintendo Has Officially Shutdown The Wii U & 3DS eShops.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bon Voyage!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on 3ds-wi10

It's official! As of 45 minutes ago "at the time this article was written" The eShops on the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS were shutdown permanently. You'll still be able to access and redownload your previous digital purchases, however making new purchases including free apps and demos are no longer possible on the last-gen consoles. This includes the asset files for Xenoblade Chronicles X that reduced pop-in and loading times for physical copies of the game which are notoriously bad without said files.

What do you think of the closures and did you make any last-minute purchases today ahead of the shutdown? As always be sure to let us know in our comments section below!

Countdown: The 3DS And Wii U eShops Are Set To Shutdown 10 Days From Today...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Ship Will Capsize In Ten Days!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on Eshops10

In case you all forgot the Nintendo eShops on both the 3DS and Wii U will be shutting down in less than 10 days. Obviously you can't add funds via redemption cards anymore, but your funds added to your Nintendo Switch can still be used on the 3DS and Wii U eShops to make purchases through March 27th of 2023. Also keep in mind that free DLC will also be unavailable after March 27th including the assets packs for Xenoblade Chronicles X that make the physical version of the game run smoothly and drastically reduces loading times for the game so be sure to snatch those up before the deadline if you ever plan to get the game physically!

What do you think of the imminent shutdown of the services on 3DS & Wii U? What last minute purchases do you plan to get before the shutdown? As always be sure to let us know in our comments section!

Review: Coqui The Game (Wii U eShop)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sinking Like A Dead Frog...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on 311

Developed and published by Alberto Roman, Coqui The Game is a unique platformer for sure, but is extremely low quality in many ways, but how bad can this game be, you say? Continue reading our review to find out!

Topics tagged under wiiu on 210

The gameplay is well it's a bizarre platformer with a heavy emphasis on jumping, but its mechanics are so stiff and incredibly poorly implemented it makes the game extremely frustrating to play. We honestly had an extremely difficult time forcing ourselves to play the game in its entirety due to its overwhelming issues.

The controls are among the most flawed aspects of the game, sometimes they're so stiff you'll struggle moving your frog while others it'll suddenly feel like you're slipping across ice with a layer of oil on top for extra slickness, to be frank this game has the worst controls we've ever seen in a platformer.

Topics tagged under wiiu on 112

The audio-visual presentation doesn't fare much better with colorful yet hideous level backgrounds and equally ugly characters and enemies and if that wasn't bad enough, the soundtrack is so horrendously annoying that you'll want to rip your ears off to end your suffering, no seriously it is THAT bad.

Bottom-Line: With unique gameplay...who're we kidding Coqui The Game for the Wii U is a seriously flawed game in almost every conceivable way and has the worst soundtrack we've ever heard hands-down and as such we give the game a terrible level of recommendation.

Link To The Amazing!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Wiiu_s13
Developed and published by Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past returns to the formula that the original game in the series utilized, but adds to it in many ways and all of which are positive improvements! Continue reading our review to find out why we think you should add this retro game to your Wii U Virtual Console collection of games!
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Wiiu_s14
The story in ALTTP is by and far better than the one that the original The Legend of Zelda title had and showed that RPG's weren't the only genre that could be epic in this regard! The gameplay while similar to that of the NES original added quite a few changes such as eight-way movement, much more complex equipment, weapon and equipment upgrades, and even an entire second world.
The game is also quite lengthy for an SNES game that's not a JRPG, clocking in at over 20 hours in length! The controls are also easy to learn which is always a good thing! Another good thing is the game runs much better on the Wii U than it did on the original Wii with far less stuttering and frame-rate drops.
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Wiiu_s15
The controls in the game are quite good, but we highly recommend using the Wii Classic Controller Pro for the best experience. The game's Off-TV play is executed perfectly with a great balance in its sound-level and ALTTP looks absolutely gorgeous on the Wii U Gamepad.
The audio-visual presentation is also superb with gorgeous cartoonish graphics that are exceptionally detailed for an SNES title, and the animations are fluid with rarely any dropped frames. The soundtrack is also pure bliss with catchy chiptunes and surprisingly good sound effects!
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Wiiu_s16
Bottom-Line: With an amazing and lengthy story , excellent gameplay, great controls, and a nearly flawless audio-visual presentation, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past has aged gracefully and is just as fun today as it was when it was released well over 25 years ago! The better frame-rate compared to the Wii Virtual Console release makes this the most definitive re-release of the game thus-far! We give The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past for the Wii U Virtual Console a perfect level of recommendation!
Review: Mario & Luigi ~ Partners in Time (Wii U VC)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Baby Splash In Time!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Wiiu_s10
Developed and published by Nintendo, Mario & Luigi: Partners in time is the second title in the now long-running Mario & Luigi series and adds to the formula of Superstar Saga with time-travelling shananigans with the now-famous Baby Mario Bros. in tow. Is this zany title as good as its predecessor? We think so and here's why:
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Wiiu_s11
The story in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is just as epic as you'd expect from a true to form Mario RPG. Of course there's plenty of humour to be had, but unlike recent Mario RPG's Bowser is not the main focus as an antagonist, much like in Superstar Saga and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door there's a cast of refreshingly unique antagonists to tackle which is a breath of fresh air to be quite honest.
the gameplay is revamped from Superstar Saga, there's a time-travelling element, plus the baby bros. join the team, giving you four different allies at your command at once which adds alot of depth to the gameplay formula. Puzzle solving plays a big role in Partners in Time and ctn be challenging at times while the battles are substantially more difficult than those in Superstar Saga.
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Wiiu_s12
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is also quite a long game, clocking in at over 40 hours in length. The controls are also superb which is always a good thing. The audio-visual presentation while simple in nature are quite beautiful and fit the game like a glove, while the soundtrack is far better than the one in Superstar Saga. Overall the game looks and sounds like pure perfection!
Bottom-Line:
With a wacky and highly enjoyable story, superb gameplay, and flawless audio-visual presentation, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is the pinnacle of perfection and one of the best DS games we've had the opportunity to play and as such we give the game a perfect level of recommendation!
Review: Shantae ½ Genie Hero: Ultimate Edition (PS4 PSN) {2018 Indie Game of Fame Award Winner}
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Half Genie Legend!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
Developed and published by WayForward Games Shantae ½ Genie Hero is the latest title in the long-running Shantae series, which is a top-tier platforming series with some Metroidvania elements, but how does this adventure stack-up to the rest? Continue reading our review to find out!
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
The gameplay in Shantae ½ Genie Hero is quite a bit closer to a traditional platformer compared to its previous entries which were more akin to Metroid or Castlevania, though a few of those elements such as upgrades and transformations remain. As usual you attack enemies with your hair whip, and transformations which return from the very first Shantae title, allow Shantae to reach previously impossible to reach places.
The game does seem a bit shorter than a typical Shantae title, but it makes up for it with various modes that completely change the way the game plays, such as The Mighty Switch Force mode where you must utilize switch blocks to travers courses while collecting criminals and shooting enemies. You can also kill enemies by launching them into your TV screen with the switch blocks, but be careful not to do that to Shantae now. Other fantastic modes include the fast-paced Ninja mode which allows Shantae to scale walls, slash enemies to ribbons, ans use throwing weapons. Then there's the Friends Till The End and Risky Boots campaigns which shed more light into the main game's story. There are many more modes than the one's that we mentioned and best of all, they all have a unique storyline which really adds to the replayability of the game!
The controls in Shantae ½ Genie Hero are intuitive and easy to learn while the difficulty varies greatly depending on the mode you choose. The audio-visual presentation is superb as the characters and world are lush and detailed with gorgeous use of colors while the voice acting "what little there is" and the soundtrack are flawless and fit the game perfectly.
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
Bottom-Line:
With incredible gameplay, a ton of different modes offering an insane amount of replayability, flawless controls, and a superb audio-visual presentation Shantae ½ Genie Hero is an amazing game that is nearly perfect in every way and as such, not only do we give it a perfect score, but we're also awarding Shantae ½ Genie Hero our 2018 Indie Game of Fame Award which means that we think that it is the best indie released since August 2017!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Rare Western JRPG Making A Festively Magical Splash On Wii U!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
Developed and published by Snowcastle Games, Earthlock: Festival of Magic might be developed by a European company, but is truly a JRPG at heart with a colorful artstyle, and music you'd expect from the Japanese sub-genre of RPG's. Is the game as a whole worth purchasing if you're a Wii U owner? We think so and here's why:
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
Earthlock: Festival of Magic is a mouthful so we'll just call it Earthlock for the rest of the review. Earthlock is a turn-based Japanese-style RPG that is the first fully 3D indie RPG to ever grace a Nintendo console in the West. The story is all about magic and youth and well it's pretty good, though don't expect anything groundbreaking in this regard. The gameplay on the other-hand is a bit more unique with a monster partner system, and a farm to grow ammunition for your characters guns. There's also a bit of city development and other very enjoyable features that we thoroughly had a blast with!
The game itself can be relatively short if you try to power through it, but completionists can expect over 60 hours of gameplay! The difficulty can be challenging at times, but for the most part is well balanced with easy solutions to beat otherwise extremely challenging bosses. The controls are also intuitive and easy to learn which is always a good thing, however the lack of Gamepad features despite the fact that the game can only be played with one is rather disappointing.
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
Visually the game looks absolutely breathtaking for an indie title as the world has a crazy amount of detail, the characters and monsters look great, and the special effects look amazing, especially the lighting effects! The audio presentation is also fantastic with great tracks that fit the game well to great ambiance in certain dungeons and locations. Overall we'd say the game showcases just how good a 3D indie game can look with enough effort!
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
Bottom-Line:
With amazing gameplay, easy to learn controls, and a top-notch audio-visual presentation, Earthlock: Festival of Magic is an insanely fun game that'll keep you coming back for more, the own negative aspect of the game is that it really doesn't make use of the Gamepad. Overall however we give the game an amazing level of recommendation!
SEGA Does What Nintendon't!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on Large

According to several dataminers who thoroughly checked the Wii U eShop for a potential shutdown date have apparently uncovered new placeholders for every single Sega Genesis and Sega Master System game that's available on the Wii Shop Channel hidden in its data leading to the speculation that these games could be added to the Wii U eShop ahead of the Wii Shop Channel's closure!

This may or may not pan out as such take this with an incredibly large amount of salt. Also since the site in question can't be linked to by outside sources this seems a little sketchy. Regardless we reported it since we thought this was a rather interesting read.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As always our rumormill articles are just that, rumors and as such we can't 100% guarantee that these news pieces are accurate because there's just not enough concrete evidence to substantiate these stories. Enjoy the read, but don't take these articles as fact.
Feature: Farewell Miiverse ~ Reanfan's Farewell Letter To Miiverse!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bon Voyage Old Friend!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Original
It's been five long years since Nintendo's foray into social media, Miiverse launched on Wii U and it has since ballooned into a massive hit especially after the app was added to the 3DS, and though several restrictions added since 2015 have severely hampered the service, it is still going surprisingly strong in its twilight days leading up to its closure in less than two weeks. What does this mean for you? Well even if you don't use the app if you own a Wii U you will no longer be able to add friends to your friends list, this also means that you'll be unable to make new friends and send in-game PM's in games such as Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate as well. Basically it will mean that you'll have to make due with any current friends on your list for online experiences so I suggest you don't remove anyone from your list if you plan on having any online gaming sessions on your Wii U in the future.
The 3DS is safe from this issue, since its friends list is tied to your handheld's friend code instead of Miiverse. Once Miiverse closes this will also render the Miiverse stage in Super Smash Bros. Wii U & 3DS completely useless which is another major reason why important offline available content shouldn't be tied to features that will be removed in the twilight years of a console. This is just the tip of the ice berg though as nearly 115 Wii U games feature Miiverse support within the game itself such as Super Mario Maker, Splatoon, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD / Breath of The Wild, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Super Mario 3D World, Hyrule Warriors, New Super Mario/Luigi U, Shovel Knight, etc, etc. All of these games and many, many more will have very cool and unique features stipped from them upon Miiverse's closure which is definitely going to hurt the enjoyment factor of the games, but in some more serious cases will make some content impossible to obtain "I'm looking at you Xenoblade Chronicles X". Yes that's right, the two raid bosses in Xenoblade Chronicles X and their exclusive materials will be lost upon Miiverse's closure which will prevent players from creating a couple of the most powerful Skells in the game as well as some of the best weapons in each job class.
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Original
Regardless of the major flaws and drawbacks regarding the closure of Miiverse the social media experience it provided was one of the most unique and intriguing I have ever experienced and the colorful personalities of its myriad of members always put a smile on my face. One of the greatest things about Miiverse was that it was a gathering place of many highly talented and aspiring artists and the beauty of the art graced almost every member's timeline! There were plenty of hilarious moments such as the discovery of the aptly named Luigi Death Stare in Mario Kart 8, the creation of the facepalm-worthy meme character Bigley, and who can forget the annoyed developers talking smack about Nintendo's sudden announcement that Miiverse was going to be closing in November? Bottom line Miiverse was unique and incredible in so many ways and will be missed by our crew.
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Original
Anyways be sure to tell us about your thoughts about and past experiences you've had with Miiverse in our comments section below!
Review: The Legend of Zelda ~ Breath of The Wild (Switch Retail)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Walk On The Wild Side!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild is a fantastic open-world adventure game that completely reinvents the franchise. And while it's an excellent title it feel like it's lost some of that Zelda magic. Despite this we still feel the game is one of the best titles in the franchise. Continue reading our review to find out why!
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
Breath of The Wild is an open-world adventure game and possesses a massive world with tons of secrets and hidden areas to explore and despite being much smaller in scale than Xenoblade Chronicles X, Nintendo did a fantastic job with the topography of the world in the game to make you truly feel like an explorer! This is the game's greatest strength, however it's also its greatest weakness as well since the game nearly does away with complex puzzle solving and dungeons in favor of smaller and easier shrines.
These mini dungeons number in the 100's, but are substantially simpler than a typical dungeon in the Zelda series. With the exception of this, however Breath of The Wild is a fantastic entry in the series and other aspects such as the story-telling as well as sidequests and pseudo guild quests are superb and will keep you entertained for many hours!
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild is also the first game in the Zelda series to have full voice acting in most of the important story scenes which gives a breath of fresh air to the narrative of the game! The difficulty of the game is fairly easy for the most part, though it can become somewhat challenging at times. For those who want a challenge, there's a difficulty setting for that! The item scavenging and pet system are extremely rich and can make exploration extremely fun for completionists!
You can also cook and craft items in the game as well. This system is somewhat limited, but is enjoyable nonetheless! The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild is also by far the longest game in the Zelda series clocking in at over 300 hours to complete one hundred percent!
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
The controls in the game a flawless and are a piece of cake to learn which is always a very good thing. The visuals in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild are absolutely gorgeous and even give Xenoblade Chronicles X a run for its money in-terms of the best looking Wii U games! The environments as well as the character/enemy models are intricately detailed and the Cel-Shading gives the game a breathtaking art-direction unlike anything we've ever seen before!
The soundtrack is also absolutely flawless with fully orchestrated dynamic tracks that not only fit the mood of the game, but also change in rhythm and tempo depending on what's happening around Link which adds to the game's atmosphere!
The Switch Difference:
Besides a slightly higher resolution and better frame rate on the Nintendo Switch version when docked both games are nearly identical. The only difference we can think of is that the Switch port has better textures and object models, but overall you'll have an amazing experience with the game regardless of which console you play it on!
Topics tagged under wiiu on  900x
Bottom-Line:
With an incredible story, superb gameplay, and flawless controls, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild will draw any Wii U or Switch owners to the game while the unparalleled audio-visual presentation will keep players coming back time and time again. Honestly the only drawback that the game has is that it is too different from the other games in the series, however in-terms of open-world games, Breath of The Wild is in a league of its own which is why we give the game a perfect level of recommendation to any and all Switch and Wii U owners!
Review: The Legend of Zelda ~ Breath of The Wild (Wii U Retail)
A Walk On The Wild Side!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on 900x

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild is a fantastic open-world adventure game that completely reinvents the franchise. And while it's an excellent title it feel like it's lost some of that Zelda magic. Despite this we still feel the game is one of the best titles in the franchise. Continue reading our review to find out why!

Topics tagged under wiiu on 900x

Breath of The Wild is an open-world adventure game and possesses a massive world with tons of secrets and hidden areas to explore and despite being much smaller in scale than Xenoblade Chronicles X, Nintendo did a fantastic job with the topography of the world in the game to make you truly feel like an explorer! This is the game's greatest strength, however it's also its greatest weakness as well since the game nearly does away with complex puzzle solving and dungeons in favor of smaller and easier shrines.

These mini dungeons number in the 100's, but are substantially simpler than a typical dungeon in the Zelda series. With the exception of this, however Breath of The Wild is a fantastic entry in the series and other aspects such as the story-telling as well as sidequests and pseudo guild quests are superb and will keep you entertained for many hours!

Topics tagged under wiiu on 900x

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild is also the first game in the Zelda series to have full voice acting in most of the important story scenes which gives a breath of fresh air to the narrative of the game! The difficulty of the game is fairly easy for the most part, though it can become somewhat challenging at times. For those who want a challenge, there's a difficulty setting for that! The item scavenging and pet system are extremely rich and can make exploration extremely fun for completionists!

You can also cook and craft items in the game as well. This system is somewhat limited, but is enjoyable nonetheless! The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild is also by far the longest game in the Zelda series clocking in at over 300 hours to complete one hundred percent!

Topics tagged under wiiu on 900x

The controls in the game a flawless and are a piece of cake to learn which is always a very good thing. The visuals in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild are absolutely gorgeous and even give Xenoblade Chronicles X a run for its money in-terms of the best looking Wii U games! Review: Kick & Fennick (Wii U eShop)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rock Solid Platforming!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on 900x

Developed by Jaywalkers Interactive and published by Abstraction Games, Kick & Fennick is a fantastic 2.5D platformer with alot of charm and a fantastic audio-visual presentation! Is this enough to make Kick & Fennick a blockbuster indie hit like Shovel Knight or Freedom Planet? Not quite, but it's still a fantastic title in its own right and here's why!

Kick & Fennick is a fairly lengthy platformer with over 5 hours of gameplay. The gameplay itself is quite unique as your character will use a rather oversized gun to launch himself to reach otherwise inaccessible platforms and in certain cases to defeat enemies. There are some collectables in the game, but not many.

Topics tagged under wiiu on 900x

The game starts off easy, but actually becomes fairly difficult in the later stages and should provide a decent challenge which is always a good thing!

The controls are perfect and should be a cinch for most players to learn! Visually the game is gorgeous and looks on par with AAA 2.5D platformers such as Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze so expect to be wowed! The soundtrack is also superb and fits the game quite nicely!

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x

Bottom-Line:

With great gameplay, flawless controls, and a perfectly balanced level of difficulty, Kick & Fennick will draw players in, and its charming and superb audio-visual presentation will leave a smile on their faces! These reasons and more are why we highly recommend the game to all Wii U owners! It's not quite at the same level as masterpieces such as Shovel Knight, but it comes very close!

Price: $14.99

Holy Cleopatra!

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x17

Developed and published by The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild, Tumblestone is a match-three puzzler like no other, as it possesses some of the best multiplayer action that we've ever seen in the genre as well as many unique modes of play!

Tumblestone's single player campaign starts off relatively easy, but quickly becomes exceptionally difficult to the point that the game might be too tough for the average player to complete. The multiplayer is the real draw of the game and it's among the best in the genre in that regard! There are several modes of multiplayer including tug of war, vs., and more that will test you and your friends' skills.

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x18

The controls are easy to learn and work quite well with the game. As for the visuals they are quite nice for a puzzler and there's quite a nice variety to the stage backgrounds, characters, and the world maps. The music and sound effects are also superb so expect a fantastic audio-visual presentation with this game!

Bottom-Line:

With excellent gameplay and intuitive controls Tumblestone will immediately hook fans of the puzzle genre and the challenging difficulty will keep you coming back for more, though the biggest draw of Tumblestone is most certainly its fantastic multiplayer modes! The charming graphics and excellent soundtrack is just the virtual cherry on top! There's really no reason to skip this game if you like the genre other than its price. At $24.99 it's one of the most expensive eShop only titles, however it feels like a retail game so the price is understandable!

Review: Star Fox Zero (Wii U Retail)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Hero or A Zero?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x14

Developed by Platinum Games and published by Nintendo, Star Fox Zero is a unique on-the-rails shooter like no other in the series! But is this a good thing or bad? Continue reading our review to find out the answer to this question and so much more:

The gameplay in Star Fox Zero is very similar to most other cannon titles in the series, however there is no doubt that the game is far more robust and refined of an experience than its predecessors! First of all there are many new vehicles and tools to advance through the game's many stages including returning favorites such as the Land Rover and Submarines and new ones such as a mecha version of the Arwing and a drone which features a neat easter egg that we won't spoil!

Speaking of the drone sections while they certainly make good use of the Wii U Gamepad they're extremely difficult and feel more like a chore to take on. We'd have preferred these sections be at least a little more enjoyable, but as they are now they just aren't.

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x15

The game also features a robust achievement system and is it challenging! Some achievements are fairly straightforward, while others require a literal miracle to achieve which is great for replay value! The enemies in Star Fox Zero are quite interesting, however the controls and certain Gamepad features are very awkward and make the game feel like a chore to play which is a very bad thing and hurts our overall opinions of the game.

Visually the game looks decent enough and the frame-rate is okay for the most-part, however for a Wii U title the worlds are quite barren and the graphics in-general look like an early PS3 game, which is unfortunate given how gorgeous games such as Xenoblade Chronicles X, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and Bayonetta look on the Wii U.

The sound-track is excellent and really fits the mood of the game, but recycled sound effects and voice-overs from Star Fox 64 make the game feel quite unoriginal which again, hurts our overall opinions of the game.

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x16

Bottom-Line:

With great albeit flawed gameplay, somewhat difficult controls that take hours to grow accustomed to, and a somewhat disappointing audio-visual presentation, Star Fox Zero is a solid game that could have been so much better. Despite being the weakest title in the series we still think the game deserves a solid level of recommendation!

Price: $49.99/"$59.99 With Star Fox Guard"

Review: Chronicles of Teddy ~ Harmony of Exidus (Wii U eShop)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of The Best Adventure Titles For U!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on Large10

Developed by LookAtMyGame and published by Aksys Games Chronicles of Teddy: Harmony of Exidus is an Adventure-Platformer in the veins of Zelda II for the NES or the Wonder Boy series. The game was originally nearly broken when it launched on the Wii U eShop, but was quickly patched "at least in North America" so what do we think of the title now that it's been patched? Continue reading our review to find out the answer to that question:

The gameplay in Chronicles of Teddy is very polished and enjoyable, with enough content to be considered a full retail release! There are four main dungeons chock full of unique enemies and bosses as well as several smaller mini-dungeons to test your wits! The game has quite a steep difficulty spike near the end so expect to get stumped!

Topics tagged under wiiu on Large11

A unique element of the game is that you communicate and solve puzzles using a unique musical instrument in the game. In fact if used cleverly enough you can even get past certain bosses without even having to face them, which is a really cool feature in our opinions! You can also find new powers to progress further into the game's world after completing each dungeon.

The game's controls are quite tight and are easy as pie to learn which is always a very important factor for any game! The Off-TV-Play is always a welcome feature, as is the option to use any one of a plethora of controllers such as the Classic Controller Pro, Wii U Pro Controller, and of course the Gamepad!

Visually the game is gorgeous with colorful and cheery backgrounds, unique character and enemy models, and splendidly awesome bosses that really add to the overall experience and the sound-track is equally as enjoyable! You won't hear a single complaint about the audio-visual presentation from us, however the patch that fixed various freezing problems and issues that caused the audio to permanently cut-out in North America has not been released in Europe at the time that we published this article so expect a vastly inferior experience if you're a European gamer...

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x13

Bottom-Line:

With great gameplay, solid controls, and an excellent audio-visual presentation, Chronicles of Teddy: Harmony of Exidus is a top-notch eShop adventure that no Wii U owner should skip, unless of course you're a European gamer since the gamebreaking glitches haven't been patched up yet in the region. The game is a meek 2/10 in Europe in our opinions, however the fully functional North American version gets a great level of recommendation from us!

The independent game developer ConcernedApe has announced that their retro-style farming simulation title Stardew Valley will indeed be hitting the Wii U eShop during Q4 of 2016! The game also features Rune Factory style battles and dungeons which is pretty cool since the Rune Factory series is in limbo since its developer went bankrupt. Chucklefish and Sickhead Games will be handling the publishing of the Wii U port of the game!

ConcernedApe has stated that they'll try to add exclusive features to the Wii U version of the game and take advantage of the Gamepad's second screen! Be sure to watch the trailer and leave us your thoughts in our comment section below!

AVG Discussion: Ichigofan On What He Wants To See From Nintendo During This Year's E3!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More Reveals Please!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on Nintendo%203e3%202016_zpswfuxd2ee

Nintendo has made some rather strange choices for E3 this year by doing away with their traditional E3 broadcast, focusing primarily on a single game with some other already known content being shown off. This certainly doesn't mean that we won't get a few surprises along the way, but the key is to keep your expectations in-check.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are some of my hopes for Nintendo @E3 based on their current plans for this year!
Nintendo needs to have a nindie sizzle reel to showcase upcoming indie titles releasing on the Wii U and 3DS.
Show footage of some of the more promising looking indie titles releasing soon including Freedom Planet 2, Soul Saga, Earthlock: Festival of Magic, YIIK, Citadale: Gate of Souls, The Next Penelope, Tumblestones, etc.
Reveal a few new first party eShop esclusives for the Wii U hopefully with something Mario or Zelda related to help flesh-out this year's release schedule!
Localize several Japanese only titles on the Wii U VC to appease the die hard fans and again fill-in the 2016 release schedule.
Release Mother 3 in the West! In 2013 Earthbound aka Mother 2 was released on the Wii U VC, in 2014 Mother 3 was hinted at, in 2015 Earthbound Beginnings aka Mother 1 was released on the Wii U VC, so it'd make sense if Earthbound Endings aka Mother 3 is released on the Wii U VC this E3!
Add GCN, TG-16/CD, and NEOGEO to the Wii U VC service as the final systems to launch on the service "at least on Wii U"!
Announce more DLC for Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Maker, Splatoon, Hyrule Warriors for Wii U and DLC for games that haven't received any yet such as Mario Tennis, Star Fox Zero, Super Mario 3D World, and Pokkén Tournament.
A demo of Zelda U should be released during E3 immediately after the announcement!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Of course I doubt that all of that will actually happen, but even if only 4-5 of the items on my list are checked that would make for a wonderful E3 surprise! Anyways what do you hope will be announced by Nintendo during this year's E3? Which items on our wishlist do you hope end up happening? As always be sure to let us know in our comment section below!

Review: Lovely Planet (Wii U eShop)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Katamari Damacy Meets The FPS Genre!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x10

Developed by QUICKTEQUILA Games and published by tinyBuild Games Lovely Planet is a hardcore FPS at its core with deceptively cute Katamari Damacy style graphics that strangely seem to compliment one-another! The game isn't without its faults, however we feel that it's definitely worth looking into and here's why:

The game is a very simple FPS at first glance, however the advanced physics engine and sheer scope of the game is surprisingly impressive. The game has several features crucial to speedrunners including a built-in timer which can be used to see just how quickly you can beat the games' 100 levels. The game can easily take 4-6 hours to beat, however once you get the hang of the game you can easily beat it in under an hour and a half!

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x11

The first off-putting aspect of the game is the fact that there's no cross-hair to aid you which can make aiming quite difficult. Thankfully the game does possess a target-lock button, however it is still somewhat inconvenient to use.

Another negative is that Lovely Planets' controls are extremely awkward "especially the button-mapping" and take some serious getting used to which is definitely not good in our opinions. The title's Off-TV-Play is a great feature that is always welcome!

Visually Lovely Planet looks absolutely adorable in a simplistic and colorful way! Fans of the Katamari Damacy series should feel right at home with the art-direction of the game! The sounds effects in Lovely Planet are okay, but nothing special, however the soundtrack is fairly decent in our opinions!

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x12

Bottom-Line:

With solid gameplay, a great amount of content, and adorable visuals, Lovely Planet is a decent to solid first person shooter that is quirky and fun to play in small doses, however poor button-mapping and other poor choices in Lovely Planets' design really holds the game back. Regardless the game still deserves a decent recommendation in our opinions!

Price: £7.99/€8.99/$9.99

Score: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ 6/10

Breaking News: Nintendo of Europe tweet teases at Mario Kart 8 DLC

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More Kart racing content on the way?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nintendo of Europe recently posted a tweet on their Twitter account that has caused speculation of the continuation of Mario Kart 8 DLC, as seen below

Mario Kart 8 is a fantastic game, as mentioned in my review here and the DLC we have so far is very well made and at a good price, which I gave a detailed look at DLC here

Considering it's been a while since Mario Kart 8 has gotten DLC, Nintendo may have another batch up their sleeves as the Wii U is slowly going to fade as the NX approaches release next year. Although Nintendo is focusing on the new home console Zelda at E3 this year, here's hoping we'll get a direct around the same time.

Review: BLOCKARA (Wii U eShop)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alchemic Block-Busting!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Topics tagged under wiiu on 885x26

Developed and published by Haunted Bees Productions, BLOCKARA is an interesting title in the puzzle genre that is hampered by a few bugs and a lackluster art-style, but does that mean that the game itself is forgettable? We don't think so and here's why:

The story is rather forgettable as is expected from a title in the puzzle genre, however the gameplay is quite unique! Basically you must destroy your opponent's blocks, fire, water, and plant with opposing blocks in a sort of rock-paper-scissors tug of war, however you and your opponent can shift your blocks around at any time which really adds to the strategic elements of the game, especially during multiplayer matches!

Topics tagged under wiiu on Large15

There are a few issues as some areas of the options menu are inaccessible due to a bug, including the setting for color-blind mode which is quite a shame. The controls on the other hand are pretty good and are a snap to learn and the Off-TV-Play is always a welcome feature!

Visually the game looks very low-budget and it feels more like a cheap to free iphone title in that regard. The music on the other hand is fairly good and fits the game well, but even that is marred by excruciatingly annoying voice acting so the audio-visual presentation in a nutshell is definitely below average.

Topics tagged under wiiu on Large16

Bottom-Line:

With unique gameplay that can be great fun especially during multiplayer matches, great controls that are easy to learn, and decent music that fits the game quite well, Blockara is a great puzzler that most fans of the genre should enjoy, however lackluster visuals, slightly annoying voice acting, and a broken options menu do hurt this game's overall score. Even so Blockara still gets a decent level of recommendation from us!

Price: $6.99

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to take part in
this interview!

[RWG]: Of course!

Could you tell us a bit about your team who worked tirelessly to
develop 8-Bit Hero?

[RWG]: I was actually the only developer on the game! I programmed it, made the art, and put it all together. I really do have my brother to thank for a lot of the level layout in various sections of the game, as well as a friend from school who made two of the levels.

As I was coming close to the finish line, I really was getting burnt out so I needed someone to help me finish up the last couple of remaining levels, and my friend did a great job.

How long did it take to develop 8-Bit Hero?

[RWG]: Actually working on it, it took about 3 months. I started it back in September of 2015, worked on it for about 2 weeks, and then needed to take a break for school. My brother continued working on level layout. Once January of 2016 rolled around, I got back to working on it. The game was completed in the end of February, but it took a few months to get it ready for publishing.

What games inspired you to create 8-Bit Hero?

[RWG]: Definitely the Zelda series, Mario, and any old-school punishing arcade game.

What is so unique about 8-Bit Hero? What sets it apart from other
action-adventure titles?

[RWG]: Mainly the "art" style. The 3D pixel art is something I was playing around with and thought looked pretty cool. There's really not a whole lot that sets it apart from other action-adventure titles, and I know that. I took on the project as a challenge to further my ability to finish titles that I start working on.

I've always had the issue of starting new projects, working on them for a time, and then starting something new. I needed to change that, which is why I created this pretty simple adventure game. I knew I would be able to finish it on my own without much issue.

Topics tagged under wiiu on Caasfq10

Why did you decide to add co-op multiplayer to your game?

[RWG]: By the time I started the project back up in January, I kept playing it and thinking, "yeah, I know I was going for simple for finishing reasons, but this is way too simple." So I then added 2-player co-op.

When that was ready, I started testing it with a friend, and he thought it was really fun, so he dared me to make it 5 player by the next day. Once I was done with that, I got excited about adding new playable characters, and things just took off from there.

The music is fantastic! Who composed the tunes in the game?

[RWG]: I composed all of the music and created all of the sound effects for the game.

Are there any secrets or easter eggs in 8-Bit Hero to keep an eye out for?

[RWG]: Pretty much any time you find one of those hidden shops that pops up from the ground, or secret gems and armour, is a nod to old-fashioned NES games. The old-school games had so many random secrets that most people would never find, which I always thought was hilarious!

We think that's everything we wanted to ask! Thanks again for
answering our questions, hopefully we'll have the opportunity to
interview you again sometime!

[RWG]: Of course! Looking forward to it.

Take care!

[RWG]: You too!

Muteki Corporation and Choice Provisions have announced that their retro-inspired JRPG Dragon Fantasy: The Black Tome of Ice will finally be hitting the Wii U and 3DS eShops in North America next week! The price-point for the game hasn't been confirmed yet. The original Dragon Fantasy game titled The Volumes of Westeria released last July on the Wii U and 3DS eShops and was very reminiscent of the early NES Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior games. Dragon Fantasy: The Black Tome of Ice , however is more reminiscent of SNES classics such as Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana with an active battle system, group techniques, etc.

Here's the official trailer for the game:

Here's the official overview of the game:

Official Overview wrote:Join Ogden and the heroes of Westeria in this classic JRPG epic, Dragon Fantasy: The Black Tome of Ice. Travel through the frozen wastelands of Tundaria, experiencing action-packed battles without random encounters, using spatially aware Area-of-Effect attacks and power moves.

Travel by pirate ship, defending against enemies in thrilling ship-to-ship rock monster combat! Defeat oncoming hordes of demons and huge bosses that threaten the entire world of Dragon Fantasy!

We recently had the opportunity to interview the developer, Utopian World of Sandwiches regarding their upcoming Wii U eShop title Chompy Chomp Chomp Party and we learned quite a bit regarding the developer themselves and the game! So without further ado here's our interview in its entirety:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Interview wrote:
Topics tagged under wiiu on  Large13
Hello! Thanks for joining us to take part in this interview!
[UWoS]: No problem guys, thank you for interviewing us!
Could you tell us a little about your team?
[UWoS]: We are a husband and wife team. Sarah and James (Woody) Woodrow, based in Cambridge UK. Woody works full time in the shed at the bottom of the garden doing all of the things (coding, animating, modelling). Sarah helps in her spare time with things like designing the characters and interfaces. Our friends Team Doyobi helped us with the amazing soundtrack.
How long did it take to develop Chompy Chomp Chomp Party?
[UWoS]: As there was only one full time person we were impressed that it only took us about 2 years! It was a huge learning curve and we needed to iterate on the game design a lot.
Why did you decide to develop a party game for the Wii U?
[UWoS]: We made the original Chompy Chomp Chomp for up to 4 players on Xbox 360 and PC. To us a Nintendo console was always our ultimate dream of what to develop for and when we figured out we could have up to 9 players we just HAD to make Chompy Chomp Chomp Party.
What is the objective in Chompy Chomp Chomp Party?
[UWoS]: Each player is a Chompy. Under the feet of your Chompy is a target that is the colour of another Chompy. That indicates who you need to run towards and CHOMP. There are 3 different modes; one where you each chase one other person while being chased called Chase and Chomp, one called Zone Dash where one player runs from zone to zone to gain points while everyone else chases them and one called Keep the Thing where one player has to keep the thing for as long as possible while everyone else tries to chomp them to get the thing.
We’ll be adding more modes as we invent them! It is a simple yet crazy and intense game that anyone can pick up and play and you can all sit around and scream and shout at each other.
How many players can play the game at a given time?
[UWoS]: Up to 9 Players, you can share your controller attachments with another player. You can even get up to 5 players with just 2 controllers and 2 nunchuks. It works with any controller combo really. It really appealed to us that it would be so easy for Wii U owners to play it multiplayer as with any other platform you would need to buy a lot of controllers to be able to play.
Topics tagged under wiiu on  885x23
What games were your biggest inspirations for Chompy Chomp Chomp Party?
[UWoS]: When we talked about making a game we wanted to create something that reflected the best times we’ve had playing games and we realised that it was getting a bunch of random people together to play something. We loved the multiplayer games of the Gamecube/Dreamcast era, we would play them with our friends all the time. So games like Billy Hatcher, Bomberman, Chu Chu Rocket and Super Monkey Ball are big inspirations for us.
We like the simplicity and accessibility of retro games like Pac-Man and ended up wondering about what a multiplayer Pac-Man might be like. So really we’ve ended up making a Pac-Man/Bomberman hybrid with our own twists and crazy brains.
Are there currently any plans to release DLC for the game in the future?
[UWoS]: We will be updating the game with new game modes and levels. We have no plans to sell DLC, we just want to update it for the players for free.
What do you think of the Nintendo Wii U?
[UWoS]: We love playing on our Wii U. It has the best games of this generation, especially for playing with friends and family. We love Splatoon and we’ve been playing lots of Captain Toad.
Do you have any other Wii U or 3DS projects in development at the moment?
[UWoS]: Not right now, we have lots of plans to develop on Chompy Chomp Chomp Party and make it even better
Thanks for answering our questions! Hopefully we'll have the opportunity to do this again sometime!
[UWoS]: No worries it was a pleasure, get in touch any time!
Take care!
Developed and published by WayForward Games, Shantae: Risky's Revenge: Director's Cut is a remake / remaster of the second Shantae title originally released on the Nintendo DSiWare Service. The game has been visually improved and has many new features as well, but is this enough to keep the game fresh and has the game aged well in-terms of its mechanics? Continue reading our review to find out!
Shantae: Risky's Revenge: Director's Cut is a Metroidvania-style adventure title that is extremely unique in the fact that the protagonist can transform into various animals to progress through the game's fairly sizeable world. The game itself is over 10 hours in length for first-time players and there are also a ton of secrets to be found so completing the game can take more than twice that amount of time!
Other unique features of the game include the ability to use panels to shift between the background and foreground, similarly to the Mutant Mudds games. The game can be difficult at times with some mind-bending puzzles, but for the most part its difficulty level is fair. The controls are great "especially the Wii U Pro controls", but the Wii U Gamepad works nice too. The Off-TV-Play feature is great for those who can't use their TV when playing the game!
Visually the game looks great! The multiple layered backgrounds, gorgeous and unique characters, and beautiful locations all add to the overall experience of the game and the soundtrack is amongst the best we've heard from the Shantae series!
Bottom-Line:
With fantastic and unique Metroidvania-style gameplay, great controls that are very intuitive and easy to learn, as well as an extremely amazing audio-visual presentation, Shantae: Risky's Revenge: Director's Cut is a great game that no Wii U owner should pass up! We give the game a great level of recommendation!
Price: £6.99/€7.99/$9.99
