Nintendo Digital Event Recap Part 1: Wii U - What Will Be Released in 2015 and Beyond?

We provide details on Nintendo's big game announcements for Wii U

The Nintendo Digital Event happened yesterday, promising a number of new titles for both Nintendo 3DS and Wii U to be released in 2015 and early 2016. In this recap article series, we'll be looking at the new Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games showcased in the Nintendo Digital Event presentation. Today, we recap the Wii U titles shown:

Super Mario Maker (11th September 2015) - With a release date 30 years to the day since the original Super Mario Bros. was released, this suite of tools you can use to create your own Mario levels is shaping up to be the ultimate Mario fan's dream come true. New features were announced, including the ability to tap in your amiibo collection and, with the aid of the new Mystery Mushroom item, become that character in-game. There will also be two special Mario-themed amiibo to collect, which will let Mario grow huge. Each physical copy of the game will include a special 100-page artbook, and there will also be a collector's edition bundle which includes an 8-Bit Mario amiibo figure.

LetsSuperMario.com (http://www.letssupermario.com) - A new service to help celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros., Let's Super Mario allows users to create their own videos expressing their passion for the iconic plumber, and upload them to the website. Nintendo promises that any ad revenue they receive for the videos will go to charity organisation Operation Smile, who aim to bring smiles to children who suffer from cleft lip and cleft palate.

Star Fox Zero (Q4 2015) - The Star Fox team makes its triumphant return to home consoles with a brand-new adventure on Wii U. The game utilises the potential of the Wii U GamePad to its fullest with a truly immersive experience, allowing the player to see a third-person view on the television, while a first-person perspective is provided on the GamePad, allowing the player to look in any direction as they battle the forces of Venom. A feature making a return from the unreleased Star Fox 2 is vehicle transformation. The Arwing, Landmaster and new Gyrowing are able to change into different modes in order to complete missions on each alien world of the Lylat System. Star Fox Zero is expected to be released towards the end of the year.

Skylanders SuperChargers (September 2015) - Nintendo has set up a collaboration with Activision and Vicarious Visions, the creators of Skylanders SuperChargers, to provide a new toys-to-life experience like none other. Both Donkey Kong and Bowser have teamed up with the Skylanders in their fight to protect Skylands from the forces of the evil Kaos, and this is represented by new Skylander figures of both Turbo Charge Donkey Kong, a Life-element SuperCharger, and Hammer Slam Bowser, a Fire-element SuperCharger, as well as vehicles for both characters. But there's a twist: by spinning the base of these new characters, they transform into fully-useable amiibo figures! You can send Hammer Slam Bowser to wipe out Chompies and Greebles in Skylands, then send him into Palutena's Temple to knock Fox, Mr. Game & Watch and Lucario into the sky! It's not yet clear if these characters will only be compatible with the Wii U, 3DS and Wii versions of Skylanders SuperChargers, but it's safe to assume it to be the case. Skylanders SuperChargers will be released in North America, Europe and Oceania in September.

Xenoblade Chronicles X (December 2015) - Launching just in time for the holiday season, this latest entry in the smash-hit JRPG series promises to be one of the deepest experiences the Wii U has yet seen.

Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival (Q4 2015) - In this title, players are able to use special Animal Crossing amiibo figures to play a board game. The board itself will change its appearance depending on the time of year you play, offering new experiences as the year progresses. The game will come bundled with two amiibo, the twins Isabelle and Digby, as well as three amiibo Cards, and will be available in Q4 2015.

Genei Ibun Roku #FE (working title - 2016) - In this crossover title, two young heroes in modern-day Tokyo must protect the world of glamour from the encroaching darkness. It infuses elements of the Fire Emblem series, and promises to be a treat for fans of ATLUS's Shin Megami Tensei series. It is expected to be released in 2016.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash (Q4 2015) - In a twist to the standard Mario Tennis formula, players are able to pick up Mega Mushrooms, which allow them to grow to an enormous size and create an intense match!

Yoshi's Woolly World (Winter 2015) - Not much new info was revealed for this title, but a number of new pieces of footage showed the game in action. It looks to be a must-play for any Yoshi fan, and will be released in winter 2015 in Japan and PAL regions, and later in the year in North America.

Well, it seems that there will be a number of new titles for Wii U owners to play over the coming months, with something for every Nintendo fan. In addition, Let's Super Mario is an amazing idea for a good cause, and allows us to share in our love of the Mario series. Stay tuned for the second part of this article, which covers Nintendo 3DS titles revealed during the Digital Event. So which of these games have you excited? Be sure to leave a comment below.
