I believe so and the problem only gets worse as websites get larger. There are some large websites that are worse than others, sites where the biggest trolls are the moderators of the forums. (I'm glaring at you IGN.)

The only good websites are the ones that strike a fine balance between being strict against trolling without unnecessarily banning people who might have unintentionally posted a borderline trolling message, but aren't known trolls, however such a balance seems to be a rarity.

Anyway let the first serious discussion thread commence!

GameFaqs may have a lot of trolls but the mods do a great job at dealing with the situation. The leveling system on the board determines how much freedom you have. When you're in trouble you lose karma which depletes your freedom temporarily. Sometimes longer depending on the situation.

I feel more sites should adapt some sort of karma leveling system. If someone is trolling and does it everyday, derails topics and upsets multiple users in the process of it all, he should be stripped of his freedom for a period of time.

A guy on GameFaqs was punished for flaming others for not agreeing with him and his karma was decreased to 5 instead of 31 and he could only post fives posts every 24 hours. Which was great for the rest of us since it lasted a few days. Very Happy

Oh dear god yes trolling is a major issue that is out of control on video game forums, but it seems WiiWareWave has next to no users that troll the forums. Smile

Trolling gets on my nerves and yes it's very common at most large forums, but most times it is caused by poor forum management.

Its because WWW is small still. I am sure if it was as well known as NL or IGN or Gamefaqs than it too would have its share of trolls. Hopefully though WWW will have a mod team that will be able to handle them.
