E3: Moderation In Miiverse Explained! Ninten17

If you've been wondering how Nintendo will handle user posted messages in Miiverse we have some answers! As many of you already know Nintendo takes being a family friendly company very seriously and their Miiverse will not be any different.

Satoru Iwata has explained that there will be different levels of moderation depending on the type of content shared. For instance basic text posts will be faster and easier to moderate than messages with images or videos. User-posted content will need to be reviewed by Nintendo before being added to Miiverse.
Iwata expects that messages would likely take around 30 minutes to be approved and posted on Miiverse.

Authors Comment: What are your thoughts about the heavy censorship that will be used in Miiverse?

Moderation is important, but I feel Nintendo may be taking it too far with Miiverse. Sad

This sounds like Chinese censorship at its finest, but not that it matters I really don't have any interest in Miiverse anyways. Twisted Evil

Does Nintendo actually think that this will be a successful formula for social media? Mad

There's no real censorship, just an automatic scan for inappropriate words. And it takes seconds to get txt messages approved.
It's only attached pictures and stuff like that that needs to go through the longer up-to-30-mins scan process.

It depends on how they go about the scanning. For example, Animal Crossing had something that would censor a swear word even if it was in the middle of another word. That would make this system nightmare-inducing, so hopefully they've worked out the kinks.

I hate that First Class. Would be sensored to Cla** so dumb. Monster Hunter tri does it too.

@KingreX32 at least in MHT if a swearword is within a word it isn't censored for example hell would be censored, but shell is unaffected. This type of censoring isn't ideal, but is workable, however if it censors swearwords within words as an example shell, hello, mass etc. or censors swearwords that aren't swearwords in the language you are using like MHT does one such example would be the word after which is a swearword in German I believe, but is a common unprofane word that is necessary in many conversations in English, then there will be alot of angry Nintendo fans out there.

I believe we should be given the freedom of speech, and be able to freely express ourselves however we see fit. What if I want to privately discuss something personal with a friend? This moderation should be completely optional, at least to a reasonable extent. Parents of young children should just be given these type security/accessibility options in the Parental Controls. Just like on a computer, they could be given a choice as to what level of security/access they believe is appropriate for their children.
